Deion Sanders’ engrossment in spirituality runs deep into his family. Two of his eldest children, Deiondra Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. are oftentimes preaching on social media platforms, following the footsteps of their father. All of this, thanks to Bishop Omar Jahwar, Deion Sanders’ former spiritual mentor.

Bishop Omar passed away in May 2021 because of post-complications of Covid-19. Yet, he continues to live in the heart and soul of Deion Sanders since Bishop Omar brought Sanders out of his su*cidal tendencies, almost giving him a fresh lens to view the world. As Sanders remembers one of the most important people in his life, he shared a picture of the respected Dallas Church community leader smiling, with a heartfelt note. “I miss you, pastor. My brother, my friend & my dawg,” Prime expressed.

Also known as the peacemaker, Bishop Omar Jahwar had taken the task of healing America in his hands, which emanated a ‘Heal America’ institute. “What’s Heal America?” a follower asked Bishop Omar. At that time, he said, “Man, every side needs to be able to hear each other and come together. And America needs to heal. Not Black, not white, all of America needs to heal. Not just one side or the other, because they have issues and we have issues. So both sides need to heal.”

Since the time they met in Cincinnati for the first time, Deion Sanders was simply enchanted to meet the pastor. So Deion Sanders was one of his many followers who was left devastated after Bishop Omar passed away. However, god had other plans for him as Prime found another spiritual mentor to guide him through his spiritual journey.

E. Dewey Smith gave an exclusive interview to the Preegame show, where he highlighted how nature took its course in Sanders’ life and how he ended up being his spiritual mentor. Their relationship was as simple as it gets. The two grew over each other. Since the two collided at a Men’s conference in Washington DC about 20 years ago, they have been in each other’s contact.

Staying in touch pushed to two to attend meetings together, deepening their bond. It was almost like a puzzle piece fitting in its place that Smith had fitted in Sanders’ life as his spiritual mentor after Bishop Omar’s death. All in all, Deion Sanders is a man of faith, with Bishop Omar’s principles guiding him.
