A two-way star on the field is the pride of a team. But an injury to these multi-position players can prove detrimental to the team. And there’s no better team than the Colorado Buffs who can relate to this situation when two-way star Travis Hunter suffered a serious injury in Week 3.
Colorado entered the 2023 season with a fresh 3-0 start. But after losing a key player in the third game, the team’s momentum dropped. In their game against the Colorado State Rams on September 16, Travis Hunter got hit by Rams safety Henry Blackburn leading him to miss the following three games. Weeks after what happened, see what the 20-year-old has to say about his experience with the injury.

With Coach Prime season 2 available on Amazon Prime, fans can now get deeper access to the lives of the Colorado college football players. In the latest episode of the docuseries, Travis Hunter comes clean about his experience as he got hit on the field while playing. He said, “After I got hit, I just couldn’t breathe. Pretty much that’s it… I can’t describe the pain. It was aching, hurting. And I know it wasn’t just getting the wind knocked out of me, so I just knew there was something wrong.”
As Deion Sanders said, Travis Hunter is one of the “best players on offense and defense which is absurd to lose two players with one shot.” Even with him down and beaten, the only thing that was in the mind of the two-way star was to get back in the game and play. However, by the beginning of the fourth quarter, it was ruled out that Travis Hunter suffered a grade II liver laceration.

After sitting out three games with his injury, Travis Hunter returned to the field with zeal and pent-up vigor in their game against the Stanford Cardinal. He played as the defensive back and wide receiver to secure two touchdowns. He finished that game with 13 catches for 140 yards.
The Paul Hornung Award winner’s dedication towards his team is clear. He even negotiated with Coach Prime about returning to the game during his recovery phase, saying, “I need to play this week… I’m not taking no for an answer.” But Deion Sanders denied his request saying, “I care about you more than I care about this game… Relax and get healthy. I love you son.“
