The NFL didn’t suit Johnny Manziel; one reason was his former teammate Brian Hoyer. When Johnny Football hung up his NFL cleats after two seasons with the Browns in 2015, there were some solid grudges he carried with him to the Canadian Football League. So solid that it prompted him to text his apathetic starting QB position competitor a text that read, “Funny I didn’t get this treatment as a rookie!” Hoyer’s face first fell, then scrunched up in frustration as he said, “Oh man, Here we go again.”

Although the incident unfolded years back, Hoyer was reminded of it once again by Johnny Football on the Good Morning Football Show. Manziel first aired his dirty relations with his former teammate Hoyer when he made headlines during last week’s Club Shay Shay episode. Brian Hoyer needed to explain and explain he did, sitting face-to-face with Johnny Football on the GMF Show. The first complaint that Manziel shot was about Hoyer not making the QB room feel like a home to him. Hoyer, taking the high road, calmly put his point forward, saying, “I feel sorry that way about it.”

Hoyer felt sorry because he loved his job too much to sacrifice it for Manziel. “That was an opportunity for me to go out and be the starter of my hometown team, but I was kind of apathetic towards him. I would say I didn’t go out of my way to be a jerk to him, but in the same sense, I was trying to win this job and go out and perform the best I could.” He also gave further clarification about not having any tough feelings towards Manziel. It was directed at other people: the owner and the GM of the Browns. On the other side of the story, Browns’ owner Jimmy Haslam and the then GM Ray Farmer, had their own reasons.

Johnny Manziel after being drafted

After a college football career that had hit almost every major tabloid, it was time for Johnny Football to be drafted and 21 teams, including the Cleveland Browns, skipped him. Manziel had to find an alternative. So he picked up his phone and texted the then-Browns quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains that he would ‘wreck the league’. Impressed, Loggains forwarded the text to head coach Mike Pettine, who traded Johnny Manziel up next. Hence, Manziel was selected as the 22nd overall pick.

However, when he had to actually ‘wreck the league’, Manziel reportedly spent two days ahead of the game partying in Las Vegas, per Sports Illustrated, instead of practicing. Again, several reasons might have motivated them to push their draft pick, like Manziel being $12000 for a ‘flipping the bird’ hand gesture when they lost their pre-season game to Washington Redskins. Following this loss, Hoyer was announced as the starting QB for the next season, commencing the feud between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel.
