In his recent appearance on the Ryen Russillo Podcast, Dan Lanning came clean on what went down at Oregon’s locker room as they prepared to face Deion Sanders’ Buffs in their first conference game against each other. He said of his speech being aired by ESPN, “Some people pulled out what I didn’t anticipate being on there. Now that being said, I don’t regret anything that happened in that locker room but I don’t know if I’ll ever have a camera in the locker room again.”
Lanning, who then was on his 17th game as the HC, was asked if the crew could get a camera into their locker room to which he obliged. But he now admits his folly with a lesson well learned. But he addresses the main puncture and answers the mystery, saying, “Was it a bad thing for Oregon? No. At the end of the day, it ended up being a good thing for Oregon. But it was never about any other team than us. That’s what that was about.”
Lanning’s speech, while fanning the flames of competition, also benefitted the game viewership a lot. The tiff between the coaches excited everyone as a record number of viewers tuned in.
