On September 26, 2023, Deion was giving his post-match interview as usual. He was asked about his team’s poor performance and how he is planning to implement major changes. The interview went on as usual until he arrived at the last question of the interview. A female interviewer asked Sanders about how the environment has been changing within the team after the loss to Oregon. His reply was charismatic until he spoke one sensitive word.

Sanders replied to the question by saying, “We’re still on the high, we’re not on a seesaw yeah we don’t go up with the weight coming down. We don’t do that, we rock steady baby.” He immediately apologized for using the word “baby” as it comes across as misogynistic and offensive. He further stated, “I didn’t mean to call you baby. I don’t want to be vilified by calling a woman a baby in this climate.” The immediate apology came across as self-awareness because Coach Prime’s words have the power to influence millions.
Moreover, Sanders is a historical figure in the sport of the NFL and an impactful one. He’s taking the criticism to his chin as he recovers from the devastating loss to the Ducks. Thus, while he struggles to find his place as a coach, it is important to remember that he’s had a legacy that will be difficult to live up to for a long time.
