Deion Sanders was the epitome of a celebrity back in his days in the NFL and a recent account from Keyshawn Johnson proves it. The 56-year-old coach for the Buffaloes has been known to be a figure of inspiration when it comes to football and also beyond. His influence among the community as Coach Prime has been bigger than his accolades as he continues to spread kindness.

With fame and glory to his name in the late 90s, Coach Prime was a legend when Keyshawn Johnson was drafted to the New York Jets around the same time. Additionally, the NFL draft, which continues to be a spectacle even today, was always a reason to host a fancy party with celebrities gathered together. As such, when Johnson hosted his NFL draft party, almost 2000 people showed up but the person who left the most significant impact on him was Coach Prime.

On the latest episode of the ‘All the Smoke’ show, Keyshawn Johnson appeared as a guest to share his favorite memories about the wild NFL Draft party he threw in 1996. The likes of Tupac and Snoop Dogg were also some of the many celebrities who showed up to support Johnson.

The former WR for the Jets got nostalgic and gave an account of his first interaction with Coach Prime and how it deeply touched him. He said, “I’m like damn Prime. I’m sitting there talking to him but what he wanted to do was talk to me, educate me on the pitfalls and NFL, what to look for. You know, just wanted to be a big man. I’m like, man this dude came, I didn’t even invite him but he wanted to be there right. He wanted to see a real one. That’s why him and I, we like thick as thieves right now you know, just because I appreciate that.

It’s evident that Deion wanted to support his fellow athletes and help him through his journey in the NFL. As such, they’ve both shared a great relationship, which was made apparent when Johnson supported Sanders through his hard times.

The Colorado Buffaloes gave a seemingly mediocre performance last season. Though his debut with the Buffs set a precedent among the fans that Deion would be the next great coach in the NCAA, the ball rolled downhill pretty quickly. After 3 consecutive wins, the team couldn’t hold on to their streak and suffered through a string of losses. Eventually, their season came to an end with a poor record of 4-8.

As Deion faced heavy criticism about his coaching skills, Keyshawn Johnson valiantly stood in his corner and defended him. When asked if Deion Sanders’ first year at Colorado was a success or failure, Johnson immediately responded with “success.” Moreover, he added that people are just jealous of him “because he’s Deion Sanders.” Now that the next season draws to a close, Coach Prime Deion Sanders will get his shot at redeeming himself as the Buffs’ prepare harder than ever.
