In the wake of the departure of the coaching stalwart, Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines have channeled their faith on a key architect. Sherrone Moore, the mastermind has taken up the role of the head coach and will be the driving force for Michigan for this year’s national championship. Moore’s appointment comes with the perspective of shattering racial barriers, as he becomes the first Black head coach in the storied history of the Wolverines at the age of 37. Hence, his contract demanded to be unique too. 

The Wolverines have enjoyed a remarkable run under Jim Harbaugh that brought them the first national championship since 1997 and three consecutive victories against Ohio State. Hence, Michigan’s decision to promote Moore, to take up the position of Harbaugh demonstrated a notable commitment. According to the contract, there prevails a scope for Moore to earn a hefty amount as a bonus if the program wins the College Football Playoff National (CFP) championship, apart from his salary and other financial accommodations.

As per the contracts, Moore stands eligible to earn bonuses for various achievements. However, among them, one opportunity allures the coach that is to propel the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff. This victory will open the scope for the head coach to win the Big Ten title. To enumerate, the amount allocated for different accomplishments will vary. For example, for winning the Big Ten, Moore will be able to earn a bonus amount of $500,000. Similarly, for reaching different positions, the bonus range varies accordingly.

For reaching the 12-team in the College Football Playoff, the coach stands a chance of receiving a fortune of $200,000 which on reaching the second round of the playoff increases to $300,000. Interestingly, for reaching the playoff semifinals, Moore received an offer to be awarded an amount of as much as $5000,000.

As the rank goes up, Moore’s prospect of receiving the bonus also goes uphill. In case, he is able to make it through the national title game appearance, the prize money will shoot to $750,000. Last but foremost, for winning the national championship title, Moore holds a chance to possess a whopping $1,000,000.

On completing the entire contract year, the Wolverines have committed to Moore with $500,000 as a retention bonus. Unfortunately, the contract also outlines terms for potential termination. It accounts for 75% of his base salary. Apart from this, if Moore chooses to depart after a year, he would owe the program approximately $5 million. Hence, the university holds strong confidence on Sherrone Moore to progress without Jim Harbaugh.
