Continuing the streak forward, Saturday will mark the 27th time that Michigan will lock horns with the Nittany Lions. The two first clashed in the 1993 season, the same season that marked the joining of Penn State into the Big Ten conference. Michigan stole the show with a banging 21-13, yet Penn State had just tasted the grounds of the NCAA, so they were not to blame.

Yet, as years progressed and Penn State started refining itself, the feuds started getting a tad bit spicier. Head coach Llyod Carr assumed the position of Wolverines’ head coach in 1995, the year in which Penn State secured their first-ever Rose Bowl. Head coach Carr gave an apt comeback to Penn State winning against Michigan for 2 consecutive years in 1997. The Wolverines marked one of its finest seasons in the conference under the guidance of Carr, as they were awarded the Rose Bowl Champions that season. Since then, the teams have been squaring each other off in all seasons.

However, due to the hiatus in the conference in 2003, 2004 as well as 2011 and 2012, the rivalry came to a temporary halt in those seasons. Between all this, some of the most iconic seasons defining the rivalry were 2005 and 2016. 2005 marked the most cutting-edge game of the discord, also the one with the lowest score margin of 27-25 at Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ironically, the same ground in 2016 witnessed the game with the largest score margin of 49-10. Well, looking at the current season, fans are highly anticipating yet another thrilling game that etches itself in the historical pages of the rivalry.
