Is Deion Sanders' coaching style too intense for young athletes, or is it just homesickness?

The nostalgia for home that he felt in Colorado took Dylan Edwards right back to his place of birth! It took only his freshman year for Edwards to realize the love he had for his hometown was bigger than the fame and success he could’ve had with Coach Prime’s Buffaloes. And so, he packed his bags, and off he went to play for the Wildcats, while still commending the standard of comradery in Boulder.

Dylan Edwards, the former running back for the Colorado Buffaloes, had a fantastic freshman year with the team. The 5’9 foot, 170-pound athlete set the school record for the most receiving yards and touchdowns by a running back with 135 yards and 3 touchdowns. Though he could’ve had an immense increase in his NIL value or been a more popular RB with Colorado, he chose to don the purple colors of the Kansas State Wildcats as per the Prime Time show.

As per the latest episode on the ‘Prime Time For College Football,‘ the topic of Dylan Edwards’ exit was largely discussed. They also emphasized his interview with Cat Talk, where he discussed the environment in Colorado and how his teammates supported his ventures. Moreover, Edwards’ comments about how Coach Prime had an exit meeting with him after the 2023 season where the HC asked him if he wanted to play against them, further helped Edwards in making up his mind about entering the transfer portal.

The host went on to dissect Edwards’ words and came to the conclusion that his “homesickness” was the leading factor behind his exit from Colorado. He said, “For him to understand that about himself and realize I need to do something different, I need to go somewhere else, possibly premature of him but he also mentioned he was homesick when he first got to Colorado and he did a lot of growing up while he was there and honestly, the homesickness probably overtook and made him leave out.” Thus, Colorado’s roster took a big hit when their 2023 leading rusher announced his decision to enter the transfer portal. Yet, Deion Sanders had nothing but positive good wishes for the youngster instead of bitter feelings.

It is almost tragic that Edwards chose to leave Colorado after he proved that he was worth the hype as a 4-star prospect. Edwards ended up being a massive force for the Buffs when he went on to be named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after just week one against the TCU Horned Frogs. Deion’s confidence must’ve taken a big hit when the RB decided he wanted to play for his hometown of Derby, Kansas but apparently, Coach Prime had great things to say about Edwards.

Is Deion Sanders' coaching style too intense for young athletes, or is it just homesickness?

Have an interesting take?

Deion talked about how Edwards’ happiness is “bigger than football” and said, “Great young man, great family. He will be successful wherever he goes, we want him happy. That’s the difference maker. I’m happy if he’s happy. It’s bigger than football man.” Despite the loss of Edwards from the team, the Buffs’ horns look mighty sharp with all the new additions like Jordan Seaton that Deion brought in this year, which will hopefully be enough to fill the void that 2023 star left behind.
