In this dynamic college football year, significant changes have occurred. The shift to a 12-team format by the College Football Playoff from 2024 ended the four-team era. Summer saw conference realignment impacting the PAC-12. Controversy arose as undefeated Florida State missed the CFP, with discussions focusing on the Michigan sign-stealing scandal, sparking playoff debates.

Out of these stories, Washington and Michigan emerged as unbeaten contenders for the national championship on Monday night in Houston. Having observed his team’s defeat to TCU from the sidelines last year, Blake Corum, Michigan football’s leading running back, seized his chance in this year’s College Football Playoffs. His contributions and crushing daily routine played a pivotal role in securing Michigan a spot in the College Football National Championship.

Compact at 214 pounds, Michigan RB Blake Corum has emerged as a key force for the Wolverines. In part, the Wolverines owe their current position to the return of RB Blake Corum. Despite being a Heisman contender in 2022 and having the option to pursue an NFL career, Corum chose to stay in Ann Arbor, driven by a sense of unfinished business. His on-the-field skills added to his tailored routine make him a force to identify with.

Corum’s impressive touchdown record

Corum’s record-setting journey at Michigan includes 56 career touchdowns, surpassing the 24-year mark held by Anthony Thomas with an overtime score against Alabama. The initial tie occurred in the Big Ten championship victory over Iowa. Despite limited playtime as a freshman, managing just 26 carries, Corum made an impact with 11 touchdowns in 2021 when Michigan reached the College Football Playoff and added 18 more in 2022. Although his yards per carry slightly decreased to 4.7 in 2023, he still found the end zone 25 times in 14 games.

Anthony Thomas, currently tied with Corum at 55, had a notable four-year career with the Wolverines before a successful NFL stint. He earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and achieved two 1,000-yard rushing seasons with the Chicago Bears. Despite size concerns, Corum envisions an NFL opportunity post-season, aspiring to enter the league with both a national championship and a prestigious Michigan record.
