The NCAA is in for a massive shakeup. A group of elite sports executives, including college presidents, and even an NFL insider with ties to Roger Goodell, are pushing for a revolution in college football with the new “Super League”. This plan blows up the current system. One league would replace the traditional conferences. Likewise, playoff spots go to teams with the best records. Also, players would finally get paid directly with a new system to manage NIL and transfers.
This ambitious group called CST aka “College Sports Tomorrow,” believes their plan will save college football, which they see in deep trouble. While many people are doubtful, the big question is: If this plan takes over, what happens to the NCAA and the College Football Playoffs?

Top sports executives believe the current system of college athletics is broken, even calling it an “existential crisis”. According to Athletics, a 20-person group, including the NFL’s No. 2 executive Brian Rolapp, is behind the push for radical change. Rolapp’s involvement is surprising since he’s known for the NFL’s massive TV deals. However, sources insist the NFL isn’t officially involved.
This group wants to replace the NCAA and College Football Playoff. They believe their new system could solve legal challenges facing college sports, including NIL and transfer rules. Previously, Michigan made it to the championship game by beating the fourth-seeded Alabama. This new plan changes that.
College football would be split into two tiers. The top 70 teams (think big conferences, Notre Dame, SMU) would permanently form the top tier. Teams in the second tier battle for a chance to move up. Playoffs would be automatic for division winners and other top teams, meaning no more messy selection committees.

Will the NCAA survive the “Super League” rise?
The “Super League” takes ideas from the NFL and other big sports leagues like MLS and Premier League to make college football more successful. Interestingly, key members have direct ties to those leagues. However, the group faces resistance from colleges who are hesitant to upset their current TV partners like Fox Network and ESPN. This is a huge problem for the new plan because major conferences also have expensive, long-term TV deals in place. However, CST believes they can get better TV deals with more appealing schedules, similar to the NFL’s approach.

This model would also scrap the NCAA’s traditional conference system. Instead, a players’ union would handle NIL, transfers, and salaries. The goal is to make more money from TV deals to pay athletes and support other college sports needs. Critics think CST wants to take over college football, but CST insists they are trying to save it. If they can control the playoffs and create a union to manage athlete pay, they’d basically replace the NCAA’s biggest jobs in the sport. However, turning this ambitious idea into reality is going to be really tough.
