The Colorado Buffaloes are slowly gaining traction as one of the most well-structured squads for the 2024 season due to more and more strong additions to the team. With top 5-star prospects like Jordan Seaton coming to Boulder to scale Coach Prime’s team, they’ve also recently brought in a new defensive coordinator, something that the roster direly needed.

Robert Livingston, the former defensive coach for the Cincinnati Bengals, completed a deal with the Buffs to take control over their defense which was quite poor in their 2023 season. Livingston will be replacing Charles Kelly, who announced his departure back in December to go and join his alma mater, Auburn University. And now that the Bengals’ former secondary coach is ready to join hands with Coach Prime, here’s how Uncle Neely expressed his fascination for the new DC.

On the 1st June episode of ‘Thee Pregame Show’, Deion Sanders’ right-hand man, Uncle Neely came on the show to break down why the hiring of Livingston could prove to be the key to Colorado’s success this season. Though he is an NFL coach with over 12 years of experience, Livingston is not averse to the level of coaching that is required at the college level, as Neely rightly stated.

The biggest supporter of Coach Prime and the Buffs went on to mention how Livingston was “a scout before and acquiring talent,” before being the coach for the Bengals. He also added, “One thing you can tell is that he just gets it. One of the things I love about what coach Livingston has brought to the table is, that he’s not just so hellbent on his defensive philosophy and his scheme and you got to master this.

Neely also went on to talk about how he’s been evaluating the team’s performance and helping them be their best version of themselves rather than make them dance to his tunes, despite the magnitude of experience he has. More so than that, the Colorado Buffaloes need to implement new strategies in their defensive game since last year turned out to be such a disaster.

Deion was lucky that his son turned out to be such a tough and resilient athlete who got up even after being knocked down cold by the rival teams’ offense. To put things in perspective, Shedeur Sanders became the nation’s most sacked QB in 2023 when he was tackled a total of over 45 times.

After which, he had to be given a pain-blocking injection off the field. As such, the team desperately needs to protect the star this season, to ensure he performs up to his full potential and that is exactly where Robert Livingston comes in. Players like Tawfiq Thomas, Jordan Seaton, and Nikhai Hill-Green will prove to be pivotal additions to the team’s defense as Livingston will look on to maximize their potential. It looks like the Buffaloes will be using their horns to their fullest and taking the fight to their opponents in the Big 12, whatever comes their way.
