The Colorado Buffaloes have made headlines since Coach Prime’s arrival. They are back in the spotlight, with several players leaving the team through the transfer portal. Though these departures weaken the team, they may not affect performance because most of these players are backups.
Nevertheless, at least 27 have exited since November, with half leaving consecutively before the Spring Game, causing concern among fans. Notable departures include offensive tackle Savion Washington and coveted recruit Cormani McClain. Recently, defensive end J.J. Hawking and DB Adam Hopkins joined the exodus, further unsettling fans. This shocking news comes after Coach Prime’s firm message to the Buffs.

Coach Prime’s frustration with the team’s recent player departures was evident in a recent Well of Media video. He began by energizing his remaining players with, “Let’s work, let’s compete!” Then, he addressed the situation head-on, saying, “Ain’t nobody cutting no deals, right? Is that last I’m gonna ask you one last time. Is anybody else want to tap out?” Deion sounded disappointed over players leaving despite his consistent message. Thus, he offered a final chance for all the Buffs, asking, “Anybody else that wants to tap out?”

Shortly after this message, two more young players left the team. J.J. Hawkins, a defensive end who played in 10 games last season, and Adam Hopkins, a cornerback who saw action in just three games, have both entered the transfer portal. Now Coach Prime faces the new challenge of rebuilding his roster.

The transfer portal is busier than ever this year because of a new rule. Now, players can transfer schools more than once without any penalty. This change has hit the Buffs quite hard but also helped them. While they’ve lost around 15 players in just a week, they’ve also gained some new talent through the transfer portal. The Buffs just added running back Dallan Hayden, a transfer from Ohio State, right around the same time two other CU players left the team. Hayden will join a strong offensive line that includes other newcomers, like Texas transfer Payton Kirkland.
Meanwhile, Coach Prime’s son, Shedeur Sanders, is playing a crucial role in recruiting. He’s not just a player, but also a key figure in bringing in more talent to Boulder with his attractive social media antics. Now with so many new faces, the Buffs will need to work hard to build a strong, united team. Let us know your thoughts on the “Buffs makeover” in the comments below.
