Deion Sanders vs. Shedeur: Is this the ultimate test of family loyalty in sports?

Have you been keeping up with Shedeur Sanders? Daniel Jeremiah from NFL.com even said, “Sanders is a pure thrower with a compact, smooth stroke. He has excellent balance and weight transfer upon release, possessing plenty of arm strength to drive the ball downfield.” And Bucky Brooks from FOX Sports can’t stop raving about him either, saying, “Sanders displays the poise, confidence, and swagger to make the big-time throws that elite quarterbacks are expected to make in the clutch.” This is reflected in his stats, almost 70% completion rate, over 3,200 yards, and 27 touchdowns.

So, get this – Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s dad and the HC of the Buffs, was asked in an interview on the official NFL YouTube channel on 11th July, what he’d be most worried about if he had to face Shedeur on another team. And Deion didn’t hold back. He said, “If I give him time, I know what the result’s going to be… he’s going to rip me up a little bit.” He’s basically saying that if Shedeur has time in the pocket, it’s game over for the defense.

Deion also mentioned how well Shedeur reads the field and understands coverages, which is just terrifying if you think about it. And it’s not just his skills – Deion added, “He’s a relational man. I mean, he’s a relational person where he forges relationships not only with his linemen because they love him to life… they want to play for him.” That kind of team chemistry? That’s lethal. Even Matt Miller from ESPN called Shedeur very “surgical” highlighting the fact that Shedeur knows the intricacies of the game and can weave through them. However, Miller also brought up an amazing point. “he gets rocked in those pockets and at times, gets a little bit beat up,” he mentioned, pointing to the fact that even though Shedeur is good with his offense, his defense needs some help.

Deion Sanders is no stranger to Shedeur’s defense problems. After a tough year where Shedeur was sacked 52 times and even had to miss the season finale due to a back injury, Deion knew changes were necessary. Determined to bolster the offensive line, he brought in several key transfers, including Tyler Johnson from Houston, Justin Mayers from UTEP, and five-star recruit Jordan Seaton from IMG Academy. These additions aim to provide Shedeur with the protection he needs.

Despite these significant upgrades, Deion recognizes that a strong offense alone won’t be enough to secure victories. He has emphasized the need to strengthen the defense, particularly the linebacker corps. During an appearance on Undisputed, he mentioned, “We gotta step it up with the linebackers. We’re still going to go out and maybe get another one or two linebackers to give us some depth.” This active approach will help Shedeur to show his mastery on the field in the upcoming 2024 season.
