Yet another Colorado player entered the transfer portal. Yes, we are talking about RB Dylan Edwards. In fact, 21 players from CU hit the portal this spring. However, Edwards left just after one season with Deion Sanders, and while this can hurt the team, it sort of benefited them as well because the HC found a spot in the RB depth chart with Dallan Hayden and Micah Welch’s presence in the team.

Edwards has committed to Kansas State. But during his time with the Buffs, he led the team with 321 rushing yards and a touchdown on 76 carries. He also made 36 catches for 299 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns. But it seems his departure didn’t pull down the team’s morale. At least, that’s what Coach Prime’s latest post suggests.

Two loyal players from the 2021 class have remained with Coach Prime through both victories and defeats. The players are RB Charlie Offerdahl and LS Camden Dempsey, with whom Deion Sanders took photos and shared them on Instagram. He captioned the post, “My guys. I love these guys 2 Life. Future Governor & a game Changer on and off the field.” Offerdahl reposted his coach’s post on his Instagram story, writing, “Love you coach!

In 2021, Dempsey redshirted and did not play any games in 2022. Last season, he first appeared on special teams in Week 10 as the Buffs long snapper. Offerdahl, the Buffs’ latest scholarship player, also joined the team in 2021 but redshirted his first year. In 2022, he set a program record with the most rushing yards in a season by a walk-on, tallying 150 yards in 12 games. But after Deion Sanders arrived in Colorado, Offerdahl appeared in eight games, primarily on special teams. He recorded 11 rushing yards against Nebraska and one tackle against UCLA. Further, he remained loyal to Coach Prime and was blessed with a scholarship.

It is important to note that Offerdahl would have not received the scholarship if Dylan Edwards were still a part of Colorado. Edwards was given the scholarship early on, but since he is no longer associated with the team, the funding won’t continue giving him perks after joining a new school.

Last month, the Buffs’ HC rewarded the RB with an earned scholarship. He said, “Charlie is the prototype, man. He’s a man. I love what he stands for. I love who he is.” Even QB Shedeur Sanders lauded him, saying, “Charlie’s a hard-working kid.”

Throughout spring practice, the RB showed remarkable backfield production, and that’s what made him CU’s top player of the spring. Further, it was in the locker room that Prime Time informed him about his scholarship.

The news of Offerdahl’s scholarship touched his former HS HC, Ron Woitalewicz, who said, “It brought a test to my eye because I know it’s something that he really wanted and something he’s really worked for. As a coach, I like to see the kids who work hard and give everything to the program that they can and maintain a high GPA. He’s loved by all his teammates, he really is, it’s a modern-day Rudy situation.” The player was from Dakota Ridge High School.

Amidst all these praises, what did Offerdahl have to say about Colorado? “Being home grown, Colorado is the place to be. Being here for the past three years… trials and tribulations. It’s been rough at times, but it’s all worth it in the end.”

We can only hope for the best for this dedicated player, who received what he deserved as he deepens his trust with Coach Prime and Colorado.
