The son of Coach Prime is facing a world of hate from all corners of college football. A terrible mistake on his part from almost a decade ago has resurfaced to destroy his reputation and possibly his football career as well.
The Colorado Buffaloes’ safety, Shilo Sanders, went to the Triple A Academy in Dallas, Texas back in 2015. After Deion ordered him to take away his phone, John Darjean, the security guard at the same establishment, is said to have been severely assaulted by Shilo. This led to Darjean suffering serious life-threatening injuries. Darjean sued Shilo in Dallas District Court later in 2016 to recover all the losses he had suffered, and Shilo was forced to pay an astounding $11.89 million. But in an attempt to get out of paying the huge sum, Shilo declared bankruptcy, something which Matt McChesney is now calling him out for.

On the 31st May episode of the Coach JB show with Big Smitty, Colorado alumni, and the former guard for the New York Jets, Matt McChesney came on to talk about one of the biggest controversies that surrounds his alma mater. While talking about the case of Shilo Sanders, he mentioned the repercussions that come with declaring bankruptcy, and they’re really severe.
Before chiming in with his opinion, McChesney declared that he was not an economist and proceeded to list out the negative effects of bankruptcy. “I do know that if you claim bankruptcy, you’re f***** for about seven years. Like, can’t get a credit card and s***, it’s going to be hard to get a home loan and like you’re…you’re gonna be dodging s*** for about seven years” said McChesney as he pointed out how for an entirety of 7 years, the defendant will be dealing with a lot of financial strain.

Moreover, he also took a subtle dig at how the Sanders family flaunts their wealth and their expensive cars by saying, “You can’t claim bankruptcy and keep two $500,000 cars and s***.” However, he later added that even though he does respect Shilo’s decision, it leads to the plaintiff not receiving anything in damages, which is just morally wrong.
This lawsuit could very well break Shilo’s entire career if it hasn’t already, and the fans are curious as to what this situation means for his NFL career. Thankfully, McChesney had an opinion about that as well.

Back in the 2023 season, Shilo was Colorado’s leading tackler, despite the team seeing a very poor success rate. Though he didn’t really grab the spotlight as his brother Shedeur and Travis did, the upcoming season would’ve drastically changed his draft stock for the 2025 NFL Draft. But with the lawsuit at hand and the title of “bankrupt” next to his name, things aren’t looking too good for the Colorado safety.
At the same time, McChesney still made a bold prediction for Shilo and said, “Shilo won’t have a choice, he’ll be a fourth or a fifth-rounder probably, but Shedeur and Travis will absolutely have a choice, and to be completely honest with you, both of them will be in New York for the Heisman if they stay healthy.” Thus, the trajectory of Shilo’s career will mostly be affected by the lawsuit, but McChesney still went on to predict a top-5 pick for the youngster.
