The Colorado Buffaloes football program is making a name for itself in recruiting the class of 2025. One standout recruit is Christian Thatcher, a 4-star linebacker from Las Vegas, Nevada. Even though he hasn’t played in any major games yet, Thatcher is already considered one of the top linebackers in the country ranking at No.34.

The 6 foot 2 tall LB already received offers from power-five football programs like Tennessee and UCLA, but he’s taking his time with the decision. Before his senior year even starts, Thatcher plans to visit 10 schools, including Oklahoma, USC, and even Deion’s rivals Oregon Ducks.

Now, with the recruiting spotlight focused on his next destination, a recent post on Instagram gave a glimpse of his official visit to the Buffaloe. The caption hinted at a possible commitment, saying “The #1 ILB in the Nation pulled up to Boulder this week to see Coach Prime and the Buffs. Is Christian Thatcher Colorado bound?”

The post included pictures of Thatcher with Buffaloes linebacker coach Andre’ Hart. Reflecting on the visit, Thatcher told CUSports Report he “Loved” the visit and “Something that stood out was just getting to hang with coach Hart all day” as they reviewed his game films. The pictures also showed his family meeting Coach Prime, and it looks like Thatcher had a great time in Boulder.

While there are rumors of three more official visits on Thatcher’s schedule, Buffs fans are quite optimistic about their chances. They believe Deion Sanders can secure this highly sought-after 4-star recruit and it seems the Buffs head coach is already aiming high for next year.

Christian Thatcher isn’t the only one on Deion’s radar

Deion Sanders has got his hands full right now with a revamped roster after the mass exodus happened earlier this year. But Coach Prime’s sights are already set on the future. With star players like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders eyeing the 2025 NFL Draft, Deion Sanders is strategically getting a jump start on recruiting the top talent from the next class.

He’s already made a splash by hosting the highly-touted 5-star quarterback Julian Lewis, and Boulder is buzzing with the possibility of him leading the Buffs offense. But Deion isn’t neglecting the other side of the ball. He’s recently shifted his recruiting focus to secure defensive standout Christian Thatcher too. And amidst that, they’re even getting a jump start on the 2026 class, with names like Caleb Tafua and Breck Kolojay in the mix.

It’s clear Coach Prime has a grand vision but he has to build a consistently winning program in the Big 12, and early success will only attract more top recruits to the Boulder campus.
