Did Cam Ward give Shedeur Sanders a taste of his own medicine, or is Sanders still the top dog?

In the world of college football, trash talk and competition go hand in hand. Recently, Miami’s Cameron Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders found themselves at the center of a friendly yet fiery exchange during a workout.

The banter between the potential No.1 QB and Hurrican’s Star player was quite funny, especially when Buffs fans know that it’s often Shedeur who does the talking. However, looks like this time, it’ll be him under the metaphorical trash-talk gunpoint.

Cam Ward calls out Shedeur

In a video shared by Dan Sileo on X on 8th July, during a workout session, Cam Ward didn’t hesitate to call out Shedeur Sanders for taking water breaks, suggesting Sanders wasn’t putting in enough effort. Ward criticized Sanders by saying, “We throwin comebacks and you just loftin, you placin, you not throwing.” Initially, this seemed like a display of leadership from Ward, emphasizing the need for dedication and hard work. Sanders, however, defended himself with a simple “Bullsh*t” noting that the weather in Miami was a factor and also hinting that Ward wouldn’t fare as well in Colorado’s high altitude. Even Dan Sileo was quite happy regarding this whole incident. “We finally have a SHIT TALKING CANE!!!!. FCKING THIS!,” was what the former Miami QB had captioned the video with. Also, this is not even the first time Cam and Shedeur have clashed. “I bet I complete more go balls than you give me the ball you,” was an open challenge Cam had given Shedeur, knowing very well about his poor go-ball record.

However, what’s funnier is Shedeur being the victim of the clash. Mind you, he is no stranger to trash-talking. In fact, people would agree that he can even be too harsh. Like, remember the clash between him and Xavier Smith? Shedeur straight up went to Twitter to post, “Bro had to be very mid at best.” Directly calling out Smith and his overall talent. Both Cam and Shedeur are young, with a ton of anger and talent in their veins, just waiting to clash again. And Shedeur would love another rematch, especially after the terrible 15 – 56 loss to Washington State. But, this ain’t all. These small fights and struggles open up a much bigger picture.

The bigger picture

With the season just knocking around the corner, both Cam and Shedeur are feeling the pressure. While Shedeur struggles to carry this helm of “No. 1 QB” Ward is still waiting to make a mark on the field. The 2024 season and the Heisman will decide where players like Shedeur or Cam end up in the NFL draft. Sanders is already getting some bash by networks like 33rd Team and WalterFootball, placing him on the 8th Mock Draft pick and explaining that “He doesn’t have a stellar arm.” It’s pretty understandable if he ends up losing his cool on the field sometimes.

Furthermore, Ward, on the other hand, has some high praises of him floating out there. “When you watch Cam Ward throw the football, it is not just about going to the right place and going there on time. It’s the spot he puts the football in,” Pickell had mentioned on On3 The Hard Count Podcast regarding the impact that Ward has on the field. Also, Hurricanes HC Mario Cristobal had some good pointers regarding Ward. “He certainly can make plays because he understands what everybody’s doing,” Cristobal had mentioned regarding Ward leading the Hurricane’s offense. ESPN placing Cam on their top 10 collegiate QB list is also a great thing; however, we have yet to see what he manages to achieve for the NFL draft.

Ultimately, the incident does serve as a reminder that sometimes some trash-talking is potentially good for the players. Keeps em in the “mood”. However, only time will tell if Cam and Shedeur can talk the talk and walk the walk.
