Is Deion Sanders' coaching style too harsh, or is it exactly what college football needs?

The Colorado Buffaloes have been under heavy fire ever since the allegations against the program’s violent conditions came to light. Deion Sanders has stood out as a coach who has been an influential figure to both his fans and players, but after the eye-opening stories revealed the ugly truth behind the curtains, Coach Prime’s empire has seemed rather shaken.

Stories of violence being encouraged by the management, including Deion as well as physical assault by Shilo towards Cormani McClain, were just two of the several other speculations released by Athlon in their viral article. Though Cormani came out and cleared the air about the rumors of him being slapped by Shilo are untrue, the rest of the claims remain to be addressed by the parties involved. As of now, Deion Sanders and his coaching tactics seem to be in the clear as more and more players like Khairi Manns talk about their experience of training under him.

On the August 6th episode of the JMU Radio Network, the hosts invited Khairi Manns to talk about his experience during the 2023 season in Boulder. The linebacker now plays for the James Madison Dukes in Virginia but came through for the Buffaloes and Coach Prime with his honest opinion on the program amid the horrific stories of violence that are attached to them.

When asked about what kind of coach Deion was back when Manns used to play, he mentioned how the HC laid great emphasis on the team’s unity without an ounce of the controversial violence being in sight. He said, “I think he was a very good coach. Um, since I played D-line, it wasn’t too much hands-on, but he would let us know like, the backend needs us and we need the back end. So we got to work together. But I think he was a really good coach.” Though there isn’t a lot of credibility to the stories that are attached to the claims against the Buffaloes, the players continue to refute these lies with full confidence, even the ones who don’t have anything to do with the team anymore, especially Manns and even Cormani McClain. With that being said, here’s what Deion had to say about all these insider reports of harsh environments within the program.

This controversy isn’t a good look at Deion or the Buffs. The coach has been termed as a “bully” in the past or been called out for being too ruthless on social media and yet, this isn’t something that anyone on the team could’ve prepared for. Additionally, reports indicated that Jordan Seaton, the 5-star OL, was involved in a violent fight with Savion Washington that left both of them bloody, but even the newest Colorado recruit has come out to deny any of that ever happening.

“We don’t really do the hazing or the fighting. Brothers fight, but not to the point where we don’t like each other.” This is what Seaton had to say when he was confronted with all the news about the fighting and bullying. None of the current members of the Colorado staff or the players have confirmed any of the reports but these headlines continue to gain more and more traction every day.

Deion, or rather Coach Prime’s mentality is that if these media outlets care enough to cook up all these lies about the program, then there must be something good that the Buffs are doing. He was heard saying “That’s when I know you doing well, know we close to something when they start lying.” Deion further went on to be upset with all these unproven stories and wondered if there were any sort of repercussions to openly defame a healthy and safe environment such as the Buffaloes’.
