Talks around Deion Sanders never come to a stop, be it a regular season or an off-season. As the Buffs concluded their season with 6 straight losses, analysts are questioning his next season, and the struggles which might come with it. Records seem the least of Sanders’ concerns, as Coach Prime was successful in churning out the best NIL deals for Colorado boys with all the efforts he had put into creating a ‘brand’ out of the team.
Never before had Colorado seen such huge NIL numbers jumping in, with their QB Shedeur Sanders being one of the most valued in NIL valuation across conferences. However, in the long term, Shedeur’s actions may have hurt Coach Prime’s aspirations more than helped them. With new recruits de-committing from Colorado, Prime’s hopes for his next season may be shuttered.

Are the NIL deals helping or hurting Deion Sanders?

In a recent interview, Coach Prime voiced his feelings about NIL deals. He said that Colorado is “not an ATM” for new recruits. Instead, he wanted passionate football players. This was quick to set off some analysts. Dan Patrick was one of the foremost among them. Patrick also had a problem with Sanders’ hypocrisy, that he bluntly called out. “Deion you’re rich, your kids got- they’re rich. Your son’s driving a Maybach, he’s flossing with a watch.”

His point was simple: NIL deals are one of the main attractions to lure in some of the best recruits across the conferences so it was natural for kids to be attracted to come and play for money and some fame. According to Patrick, when Colorado was the hot new thing in college football, with the team winning its first 3 games, recruits committed to them verbally.

With Prime being accused of ‘nepotism’ in his coaching actions, and the team’s lackluster season finish, recruits like Antwann Hill and are taking back their commitments to the college.

Coach Prime has been complaining about the lack of ‘passion’ in his team, which is something that he seeks in his new recruits as well. “We want players who want to be a Colorado Buffalo,” commented Sanders. With the current situation, it becomes tough to gauge the recruitment situation of the Buffaloes. Will they get the ideal mix of players who love the money and fame and also have a passion for the game? What do you think?
