Deion Sanders has turned the tide and risen to fame after making a turn toward coaching. However, given the physicality of the gridiron, the athletes have to deal with issues after retiring from the game. Coach Prime was no exception after sustaining compartment syndrome, which led to the toe amputation. An orthopedic surgeon explained the reason for the toe excision.
Barstool Sports’ Coach Prime series highlighted the time when Deion Sanders went through a horrendous time. The Hall of Famer had routine surgery in September to repair a dislocated toe and a swollen nerve. But the situation worsened, and it led to the amputation of two of his left toes. An NYU Langone Health orthopedic surgeon explained the reason for Sanders’ toe separation.

Dr. Steven Sheskier mentioned via PEOPLE, “They brought him to the hospital and found out relatively quickly that the cause of it was a blood clot in the femoral artery, one of the main arteries that go into your leg. Due to the clots, he wasn’t getting good circulation to his leg, lower leg and foot, and his calf muscle swelled up. The fascia, which goes over the muscle, became extremely tight, crushing the muscle, veins and artery. That’s why he was in so much pain.”

Dr. Sheskier added It is unusual for this to occur after only having foot surgery, and that there needs to be a root cause. It was most likely a time bomb in his leg.
