Just a week after the 2024 NFL Draft, the sports world is already buzzing about the 2025 draft. ESPN’s Jordan Reid, a respected voice in the industry, has unveiled his early mock draft, a significant event that sets the stage for the upcoming draft. While college football is known for its unpredictability, Reid’s list provides a solid starting point based on the current standings of the teams.
The ESPN prediction has not only attracted the attention of football fans but also players like Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden. Bolden, a former teammate of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter at Jackson State, was surprised to see them not at the top of the list. In fact, Hunter didn’t even make the top 10. Bolden couldn’t resist a playful jab at his old friends.

Even before the 2024 NFL Draft dust settled, Deion Sanders boldly predicted his son Shedeur Sanders and star player Travis Hunter would dominate the 2025 draft. He even suggested they pull an “Eli Manning” and choose their NFL destinations. But ESPN’s new mock draft throws cold water on that hype, placing Georgia quarterback Carson Beck at No. 1. Now, Isaiah Bolden couldn’t resist a dig as he shared the list on his social media, adding, “Travis Hunter the best player in college football” with laughing emojis.

While Will Johnson landed at No. 7 as a cornerback and Luther Burden at No. 10 as a WR, Hunter was absent from the top 10 in both positions. Even Shedeur Sanders who was widely expected to be 2025’s top quarterback, surprisingly slipped to fifth. This mock draft reality check and Bolden’s jab highlight the potential challenges ahead for the Colorado Buffaloes’ star players.

Even with his disclaimer that it’s “super early,” Reid’s draft list still reveals potential challenges for the Buffs’ star players. Shedeur Sanders was a top quarterback prospect despite his team’s losing record last year. He completed almost 70% of his passes but needs another strong season at Colorado to grab his first spot. He dropped to the 5th in the mock draft behind Carson Beck from Georgia. Beck had a slightly higher completion rate (72.4%) and threw for more yards (nearly 4,000) than Shedeur.
Meanwhile, Travis Hunter, projected at No. 11 for the Seattle Seahawks, surprised many. Hunter had three interceptions last season but also played well in the recent “Black and Gold“ spring game. However, he’s not far behind as Arizona’s Will Johnson is just one interception ahead of him. Thus, both Colorado players have ample time to improve and overcome their competition.
