Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock is as good as a laughing stock in the NFL scouting rooms, and his recent antics are to blame. With a whole season left before he gets drafted to the big leagues, the NFL draft scouts are already bashing Shedeur Sanders, calling out each shortcoming they face on the clip of his previous games. The comparison that has surfaced now, however, is one that the QB must have anticipated from the day he decided to step into the pro league: the one between him and his father Deion Sanders.

Not to mention, Shedeur also must be prepared to face some tough comparisons, since his father had raked in some of the finest records, some of which are still undefeated in the books of the NFL. The majestic 4.2 number in the 40-yard dash, for example, is a number and record in the NFL Combine week that rests solely with Deion Sanders even after about 35 years. Shedeur, on the other hand, completed the dash in about 4.65 seconds, making the gap have a lot of room for improvement in his agility.

Both the sons of Prime have undoubtedly inherited his speed genes evident from their practice clips but to achieve that finesse as their father, they have a long road to travel in one season before appearing in the 2025 NFL Combine Week, the same time their father etched the record back in his day. Hence, Shedeur’s comparison to his father in terms of speed didn’t come as a surprise. The way it was made, however, was as ruthless as it can get. “Shedeur Sanders is Deion Sanders without his speed or rare athleticism,” the First Round Mock tweeted on X, with a GIF of Deion Sanders dashing with his long strides.

The major fact that is being casually overlooked in the comparison is Deion Sanders’ past as a track and field athlete. We are talking about a three-time champion in outdoor track in ’88 level track and field past, people. Shedeur Sanders, who has just been about football from the very beginning, surely doesn’t have that track and field edge as his father, making it an unfair and viciously insulting comparison for him. Amid all the scathing criticism being hurled at Shedeur Sanders’ way, however, the comparison might be another dagger on Shedeur Sanders’ plummeting draft stock.

The 2023 stats of Shedeur Sanders, like him scoring -77 rushing yards along with his negative milestone of being the most sacked QB in the league (52) was a reflection enough that he is still miles away from being a formidable QB in the league. Yet, he still has a season to redeem his scores. Basing an opinion on Shedeur’s 2025 NFL draft without giving the QB a chance in the season before it would be unjust.

The opinions on Shedeur Sanders are surely polarizing. Legends like Shannon Sharpe walking in line with Deion Sanders’ “He will be top 5 in the 2025 NFL draft pick,” while some top NFL scouts are having serious questions about him even being a first-round pick. Which one are you on?
