Buffaloes fans noticed a lack of interaction between quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter during a recent team bonding retreat. The two were even split into different groups, each leading their teams in archery and fishing, among other activities. After Hunter landed the coveted spot on the EA Sports College Football 25 cover, this separation has raised doubts.

Before Shedeur fell out with the departing Buffs players, he was expected to be on the EA Sports cover. However, due to the online negativity, Hunter took his spot, leading to speculations that the quarterback might be jealous of his friend’s achievement. The lack of social media interaction between them also fueled those rumors. Now, even after a week, it looks like the tension between them hasn’t eased.

Did Shedeur Sanders get sidelined by jealousy?

The Rico Knows YouTube channel recently fueled speculation about a rift between Buffs stars Shedeur Sanders and star player Travis Hunter.  After watching videos from Well Off Media, Rico noticed that the two players didn’t seem as close as usual. “I think Shedeur Sanders is jealous. I think he’s upset… that he wasn’t on the cover of EA Sports 2025,” Rico theorized. He also stressed that this was just an “inferring thought” based on some “clues.” He then pointed out that Shedeur and Hunter have a unique brotherly bond as the former is the “son of Coach Prime” and the latter is the “theoretical son of Coach Prime.”

He added, “But let me tell you what I would do if my brother made the cover… I’d be saying congratulations all over social media.” Thus, Rico highlighted the lack of social media posts from Shedeur congratulating Hunter, which fueled his speculation. Hunter represented a mediocre 4-8 record team on the coveted cover, and technically, this should have been a celebratory moment for Shedeur.  But the lack of a thumbs up from Shedeur led Rico to compare him to “the evil stepsisters who’s jealous of Cinderella… like why is the prince really feeling on Cinderella? What about me?” However, in the Boulder fairytale, it seems the “Cinderella” is fully backing up his quarterback.

Rumors of jealousy between Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have been swirling, fueled by Shedeur’s lack of social media praise for Hunter’s EA Sports cover.  However, a closer look raises doubts about this theory.  Shedeur skipped his half-sister’s gender reveal party to celebrate Hunter’s birthday on May 18 – just two days after the cover reveal.  Wouldn’t actual jealousy have shown then?

Meanwhile, the Buffs’ two-way star isn’t holding back his support either. He’s been publicly cheering on his quarterback whenever possible. Hunter even declared Shedeur a potential Heisman contender alongside himself, saying “Me, Shedeur, Quinn, and Donanvan” to EA Sports when asked about Heisman 2024 candidates. While the Heisman talk is exciting, Buffs fans hope it doesn’t create a competition between these two players. After all, a strong Buffaloes team needs them to work together, not against each other.
