Even though it’s been almost 4 months since Nick Saban announced his retirement from the sport of football, his name is still etched onto the tongues of the fans who believe that the team is too different every year. Regarding that, Stephen M. Smith quoted the veteran coach’s words as a perfect reply.
Nick Saban quit coaching after over 17 years at Alabama. As his replacement, Kalen DeBoer was called upon to take over the reins, and while it is too quick to judge whether his team will go all the way or not, the fans already feel like the Crimson Tide team is going through too many changes. Fortunately, the former HC Saban had the same experience throughout his 17 years that dominated the NCAA.

On the 4th May episode of the Touchdown Alabama show, Stephen M. Smith was seen responding to fans’ questions on his livestream when one particular statement caught his attention. A fan wrote, “Man I gotta get used to the new people on the team it’s like we have a different team every year.” In response to that, Smith evoked Saban’s words in the past that were befitting for the situation.
Ten #Alabama players selected in seven rounds of 2024 NFL Draft
The Crimson Tide has now had at least 7 picks in 13 straight drafts, and the 10 players taken were tied for the 2nd-most in UA history.

He said, “That’s what coach Saban used to always talk about during the seventeen-year tenure. Every year it was a different Alabama team for him, every year Coach Saban talked about it. It felt like he was taking a new job. It felt like he was taking a new role as the Alabama head football coach.”
Smith added to the nostalgia, “Yes, for those 17 seasons, he remained the constant absolutely but he always felt like every year the team was different, every year the players were different, every year the dynamic was different.” Even though the squad is going through an entirely new renovation from Saban’s squad under DeBoer, the veteran coach seems to have a lot of faith in Kalen’s prowess as the coach, as was proved by his recent words of encouragement.

While the fans seemed to be a bit hesitant about accepting DeBoer as the team’s new HC, Saban went all out in trying to motivate his newest successor in Alabama. Kalen DeBoer is one of the most promising football coaches in college, who had an exceptional season last year with the Washington Huskies when he led them to a natty game against Michigan.

As such, it didn’t come as a surprise that Saban didn’t seem too doubtful about DeBoer’s sense of judgment in handling the college football’s juggernaut team. He spoke highly of the former Huskies’ coach saying, “He has a proven track record of success and is one of the brightest football minds. Coach DeBoer has an excellent understanding of what it takes to be a successful head coach, whether it’s coaching, recruiting, developing players, or building a culture.”
Thus, with the blessings of the legendary coach, DeBoer might just have a great season this year as the fans look on endearingly at their beloved Alabama team.
