Deion Sanders is determined to rebuild the Boulders, though some of his decisions have backfired in the recent past. His decision to restructure the Colorado football squad received backlash but also proved beneficial as CU managed four victories last season.

However, this season many more players are leaving the program, with some like Cormani McClain leaving question marks on Coach Prime’s leadership. Last season, CU’s offense performed better in comparison to its defense as they averaged 19.4 points per game in their last 5 matches. One of the reasons for their improvement was the presence of their RB, Dylan Edwards, who has now announced his decision to exit the CU program, leaving everyone shocked. Now, it seems like the player might have already found his new destination.

Sports editor Sam McKewon took to X on April 24th to post an update on Dylan Edwards, “I would assume Dylan Edwards is headed from Colorado to Kansas State, but he’s one heck of a talent.” The tweet in reference is related to CU’s four-star recruit, RB Dylan Edwards, who decided to enter the transfer portal as analysts speculated he was joining Kansas State for two reasons. One is his association with Kansas State as his father, Leon Edwards, played RB for them. The second reason was his desire to play for them and Notre Dame before he changed his mind to join Coach Prime’s team.

This makes him the 36th CU player to do so this season. Interestingly, Coach Prime decided to let go of more than 50 players from the 2022 season, and Dylan Edwards was one of the 31 hand-picked players recruited by him. However, after RB Sy’Veon Wilkerson left CU, Dylan Edwards also announced his departure. But why did Dylan Edwards make such a bold move?

Although neither Dylan Edwards nor CU management has spoken about it yet, there can be many speculated reasons. One could be the struggle to become the starting RB for CU, which became prevalent after it was announced that Ohio’s Dallan Hayden was moving to ColoradoThough he doesn’t pose much of a threat to Edwards, some speculate that it could have played a role.

Another reason could be the expectations with the CU program. Dylan Edwards was the standout performer on the CU team, which ended with 4 wins last season, an improvement from 2022. Despite the best efforts of Coach Prime, Edwards probably isn’t expecting much from CU this season but has high expectations for himself. The impact of NIL deals could have also played a role in Edwards’ surprise decision, as the RB realized that it was important for him to be on a stronger team to fetch better deals. Once valued at $34,000 on On3.com, he is now ranked #931 among college football players.
