Sometimes, bad things happen. And when it does, we can either run from it or learn from it. In this case, it’s Shedeur Sanders who entered his debut season at Colorado under Deion Sanders’ coaching, only to receive the most sacks (45) in his first year.
Anyone in Coach Prime’s shoes would do all they could to protect their kid and player by taking certain measures. And that’s what the Buffs HC intends to do—protect Shedeur Sanders, so the same painful incidents would be minimized. Deion Sanders’ IOL fortification is one of the steps towards adding more protection to his QB son.

In a recent episode on Deion Sanders Jr.’s Well Off Media on YouTube, Coach Prime comes clean with his concern for Shedeur Sanders, who suffered a terrible sacking fate last season. Possibly watching his son, he admitted, “Shedeur just did something I don’t want him doing this year. Running.” Coach Prime added with some humor, “Gotta protect him so he didn’t have to run.”
The 2023 season didn’t end to the expectations of the Buffs fans, as the record fell to 4-8. But the most pressing issue for Coach Prime is Shedeur Sanders getting sacked 45 times, leading to him having to take painkiller injections and being beaten up so badly that he had to sit out the final season game against the Utah Utes. But hopefully, Deion Sanders’ adjustments this offseason will help Shedeur Sanders write a different story this season.

Coach Prime prepares for Shedeur Sanders’ protection
Shedeur Sanders was projected to be a No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL mock draft. But as per Coach Prime’s preference, he won’t be drafting for the NFL this year. Instead, he’ll enter the 2025 NFL Draft along with Shilo Sanders. So, now that he’s staying under his father’s coaching, it’s up to Deion Sanders to give him the protection he needs.

The Buffs’ poor offensive line became the downfall of Shedeur Sanders, who was constantly either getting hit or flushed from the pocket. This issue didn’t escape Coach Prime’s watchful eyes as he strengthened the team’s offensive line with 5-star IOL commit Jordan Seaton and four IOL transfers who are ready for immediate action. The 2024 season will be a revelation as to whether Coach Prime made the right moves with his recruitment.
