Heads up! With the Dallas Cowboys not extending their contract with Mike McCarthy, the rumors surrounding former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick taking up the role are doing rounds. But now that Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders’ “Last Chance” narrative comes into play, it emerges as Belichick’s contender for the position. Before you get too caught up in an uproar, the Cowboys Report by Chat Sports podcast host Tom Downey is here with an interesting take. And guess what? Deion does not stand a chance. Is it because of the devastating transfer portal that exposed Coach Prime, questioning his coaching abilities?

The lack of playoff success under McCarthy had already plagued the Dallas Cowboys. Even in such a situation, the franchise will have no shortage of suitors. As Mike Poland stated in the Blogging the Boys podcast, Belichick stands a chance. “He’s out of work, been tied to the Cowboys in the past and would be that typical high upside stop-gap type hiring to try and plug the roster and make a success out of it,” commented the analyst.

But Belichick is not the only one in this race. Buffs HC Deion, too, has a shot because of the Cowboys’ aspirations. Here, Downey steps in to burst the bubble. According to him, “Belichick sure. I don’t want Deion Sanders, my head coach, all-time favorite football player. I don’t want to see as a head coach that is going to make this even more of a circus. So I’m passing on that stuff there.”

What Downey perhaps intended is that Deion himself is in a lot of dirt; after the ex-Buffs players accused his program of “playing for clicks,” the Cowboys are not the right fit for the Buffs HC. It’s alarming how even after bagging the Sports Person of the Year: 2023 by Sports Illustrated, Coach Prime will fail to earn himself a spot in the Lone Star State.

Belichick’s 24 seasons vs. Deion’s new beginnings

This might come as a surprise for many. Even after having a disastrous 4-8 record last season, Deion has created an intense fandom. On the other hand, Belichick had an identical record with New England at 2-9. However, the ex-Patriots head coach stumbled upon controversies, especially after the NFL GOAT, Tom Brady, fell prey to his ill-treatment.

In December, 53-year-old Charleston White fueled the Deion vs. Bill controversy. His highly controversial claim went like this: “People know that you ain’t going to get no Bill Belichick out of Deion.” Even though Charleston’s analysis was based on his staunch belief in racism and its impact on sports, there lies something beyond it at a much deeper level. Whether you love or hate him, Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches in sports history. All credit goes to him for building the path to success for the New England Patriots.

The former New England head coach instilled in players the importance of living up to their roles and even withstood the test of time as winds of change ushered in, like free agency and salary cap restrictions, which Belichick helped the Patriots sail through. Conversely, Deion Sanders is relatively new in the coaching arena and is yet to catch up with Belichick’s experience of 24 seasons!
