Did the Buffs deserve their last loss? The question still looms heavy on the internet with fans and analysts alike pouring their opinions on it. Sure enough, the 23-17 game between two big names in the conference was a close call, as it boiled down to who stole the show in the final minutes. Regardless of say, Utah did. However, the Buffs did not go down without a fight either, especially Travis Hunter.
The fourth quarter was one of the most action-packed ones for the Buffs in the season as they struggled to break their 5-loss streak. Only if it were not for some later reversed moves by the referees, Colorado could have had it. Moreover, fans were as clueless as Travis Hunter himself when his touchdown passes were later reversed, the point reduction of which cost the Buffs their last game of the regular season.

Travis Hunter thinks the referees were biased

Footage, where Hunter’s touchdown catch is in the focus, has been going all around the internet, criticizing the controversial decision by the referees. To add to the Buffs’ misery, it happened more than once. The first time was in the concluding minutes of the first half. Hunter scored a rejection as he tip-toed down the sideline and was in bounds. For the refs, he stepped out on the play.

Next, and the most discussed move of the play. In the same drive, Buffs’ backup QB Ryan Staub made the perfect throw to Hunter in the near corner of the end zone. The catch, too, was perfect in real-time, as well as in review, but not for the refs. The touchdown was reversed subsequently, disappointing the team as well as the fans. If the call hadn’t been reversed, the Buffs would walk into the third quarter with dominance over Utah, something that could have changed the outcome of the last game of the season.

Travis Hunter, too, was displeased with the decision and chose to speak about it on his YT channel. “Never lost control of the ball. It was a catch.” asserted Hunter. “But guess what they did, ‘no you lost control, you have full possession’. But you know that’s how it be when you are not at your home field.” However, Hunter still played his best move, almost as a comeback against the refs’ decision, with another smooth 18-yard touchdown pass from Staub with 7:31 left on the clock.
