The claims against Deion Sanders and Co. are never-ending. Until now, the players who had de-committed from Colorado made claims against Deion Sanders. Now, the family members of the already committed players are on it. Ivan Yates, the Furman CB, made his commitment to Colorado official just last month. However, it was just after a month that his father made a shocking revelation about his son’s commitment.

ISmokeHipHop Live unveiled the conversation he had with Cory Yates, Ivan Yates’s father and mentor in his life, in his YouTube video posted on June 16. “He said his son didn’t feel like going through the transfer portal and going through all this as far as the opportunities,” the YouTuber confessed. The revelation came as an absolute shocker for the fans since Ivan Yates’ words were beaming with pride when he joined Colorado a month ago.

“Having Coach Prime (Deion Sanders) there definitely provides an immense amount of value. The coaches at Colorado are genuine and knowledgeable. I like the area and their facilities are nice, too,” the Dallas native had confessed about Prime. Hence, the knowledge of his transfer being half-hearted was a brow-knotting fact for the Buffs Nation.

Yates has transferred to Colorado with one year of eligibility remaining, having completed 4 at his previous university Furman. There the 6-foot, 180-pound CB appeared in 37 games with 15 starts, crediting 93 tackles and 13 passes defended to his name. Being a Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll member in 2022 is another accolade Yates boasts.

This is the reason for the confusion among the fans. If Yates didn’t want to, then why did he half-heartedly shift to Colorado? He was doing fairly well at Furman and had just one year of eligibility remaining. Was it because of all the fame that CU could bring him, or was it the wish to join a top-notch roster with beasts like LaJohntay Wester and Jordan Seaton? While only Yates can answer that, the chances that he could get in Boulder look nice.

Why Ivan Yates joined Boulder

While Yates already clarified his intentions behind joining Colorado were to be trained by Coach Prime, his father’s confession is enough to induce second thoughts. Hence, all the other resources that CU can offer to the CB become a reason for him flipping to Buffs.

It might be the wish to play alongside LaJohntay Wester and Jordan Seaton, the players who set new standards for Colorado with their performance in the Spring game in April. However, the likes of him getting a starting position would be slim, since the two-way star, Travis Hunter, who also plays for the CB position would be playing this season.

This brings us to the next reason, which could be his wish to enter the transfer portal in 2025 with the name of Colorado. The CU players who would be hitting the transfer portal in 2025, like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, are already getting listed as first-rounders. Whatever the reason might be, and despite it being a half-hearted transfer, fans would await the performance Yates could bring to CU.
