Deion Sanders has a special corner for WWE. Wondering why? The reason might be one of his oldest pals, the Sacramento Gold Miners’ famed Bill Goldberg. Not many know that before stepping foot in the wrestling world, Goldberg did have a stint in the NFL. As a football player, he had been lucky to share the gridiron with Coach Prime, who reigned the field. Even though Goldberg’s time in football was short-lived, it gave birth to a friendship both stalwarts cherish today.

The Los Angeles Rams drafted Goldberg in the 11th round of the 1990 NFL Draft. Later on, he had been a defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs. After that, the WWE legend played alongside Deion Sanders at the Atlanta Falcons between 1992 and 1994. Back then, players occasionally settled disputes by going at it holds barred inside a makeshift ring in the locker room. The Falcons were no exception.

Knowing how Deion Sanders is, who keeps himself away from a tackle and does not like to fight, the now Buffs HC then used to count on Goldberg to fill in for him. As confirmed by a former Falcons defensive end, Chuck Smith, “Goldberg was Deion’s ace in the hole. So anyone who wanted to deal with Deion would have to go through Mr. Goldberg. He’d walk into the ring, and nobody would mess with him.” In the May 27 video by Well Off Media that captured the moments from the Memorial Day Cookout, Goldberg was spotted giving credit to Coach Prime for something special. “I guess I have to give him 100 percent credit for me being a professional wrestler. Cause I never would have done it,” came Goldberg’s instant recognition. Time has arrived for Deion Sanders-Bill Goldberg’s approximate 30 years of friendship to hit a milestone.

Coach Prime takes Goldberg’s son under his wings

In January this year, the WWE legend confirmed that his son, Gage Goldberg, would now be under Coach Prime’s tutelage. The 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker from Boerne, Texas, has been a promising addition to the Buffs roster. Even though Gage has someone to look up to as his father, although he had a short career in football and tallied 348 total tackles with 121 in his final year, he will now be under the guidance of Sanders.

Goldberg has declared to have transferred his duties as a father to the Buffs HC. As broadcast on Brian Howell’s podcast, the WWE star claimed, “This is one of the best situations for my son not only for opportunities both on and off the field but in addition to football but moreover, I have a good friend of mine. I’m not gonna say watching over Gage but he can oversee him as a dad.”

Even on the Memorial Day Cookout, Goldberg could not resist praising Coach Prime as he now blindly trusts the Buffs HC about his son. “He’s going to take care of my boy so there’s no other defining way that I can describe it except for the fact that my son is going to school under Deion Sanders and I  couldn’t be more appreciative and blessed because this is one of the best human beings that God ever built,” confessed the footballer-turned-wrestler.

Given that Sanders has always been a great guide, Goldberg has garnered high hopes for his Gage’s time in Buffaloes. It’s time for Deion Sanders to pay back the protection he received from Goldberg during his times at the gridiron by becoming the defender of Gage.
