Even after a lackluster 2023 season, Deion Sanders still stands as one of the NCAA’s most influential figures today. As such, even if the team doesn’t see a lot of success, there’s never been any speculations about Deion’s exit from Boulder. That was until today.
Deion Sanders joined the Colorado Buffaloes after a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In December 2022, Deion signed a 5-year contract worth over a staggering $29.5 million. After the popular 2023 season, it was also reported that Deion’s influence helped rake in a total of $45 million for the school in terms of revenue and media money. Thus, there’s never been any reason to think about his release from the squad but if they have another 4-8-like run this season, Coach Prime might have to set up shop someplace else, according to Matt Chesney.

On the 30th May episode of the Coach JB show with Big Smitty, Matt McChesney, the former Colorado player, came on to the show to discuss all things related to the Buffaloes. In one segment, he was talking about the lawsuit of Shilo Sanders and then later; he set his eyes on the possible firing of Deion in case of a bad 2024 season.
“Just please God, win football games,” said McChesney as he made a desperate plea to his alma mater. He also mentioned if Colorado were to have a 5-7 season, the organization might start looking for a new coach. Furthermore, McChesney added, “Take away his name, go 4-8 and five- seven, and lose your best players, and you can’t refill the coffers with a five-star quarterback if they don’t get the kid from SC that they got all their money on.”

Even though he’ll be making a lot of Colorado fans upset, McChesney just might be right. If the team doesn’t win a lot this season, there’ll be a lot of pressure on Deion Sanders’ head for the 2025 season. Additionally, Travis Hunter, Shedeur, and Shilo Sanders will be supposedly playing their last season this year and going to the NFL in 2025, which would mean an absence of the stars from the roster, leaving Deion with the responsibility of bringing in new equivalent promising players.
With all that said, Deion has made it clear in the past that there’s nowhere else he’d rather be than in Boulder, and even neglected the possibility of following his sons to the NFL.

More so than that, he is really passionate about being able to prepare the fire in college players and send them off to the NFL. With his sons leaving for the Draft next year, a lot of fans have speculated whether he’d also pursue a dream of winning the Super Bowl, but Deion’s answer couldn’t be more transparent.
According to him, he doesn’t want to follow his kids around and instead wants to “pave roads” for his players. He also added, “I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids. I don’t follow my kids. So I do not plan on following my kids to the NFL. I have work to do here.” Moreover, Deion has a lot of love and appreciation for the fans in Colorado, who have undoubtedly, made him one of the most famous coaches in the league.
