Kalen DeBoer‘s move to Alabama has set off a series of changes for the University of Washington football program. Notably, Mississippi State transfer, SEC’s No. 2 all-time leading passer, who had recently joined the team decided to enter the transfer portal. 

Despite being the SEC’s all-time leader in completions and holding impressive records, the young athlete was poised to take on the role of the team’s starting quarterback in 2024. His decision to enter the transfer portal had added to the growing number of players looking to depart the program following DeBoer’s departure. However, in a sudden turn of events, hope seems to be reinstalled in Mississippi.

Mississippi State quarterback to play for the Huskies in 2024

Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has decided to withdraw from the NCAA transfer portal and will remain at Washington to play for the Huskies in 2024. Rogers, who entered the portal after Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama, cited the appeal of returning to Washington and the team’s strong performance last season as factors in his decision. He also mentioned his confidence in Coach Jedd Fisch, especially considering Fisch’s NFL experience. Rogers aims to treat the upcoming season as a bridge year toward his NFL aspirations. 

His choice contributes to positive developments in the Washington quarterback room, following recent commitments and signings. Rogers boasts an impressive résumé, holding the SEC record for most completions with 1,301. With 38 starts, he ranks as the NCAA’s 39th career passer in yards. A standout season at Washington could place him in the top five in college football history. Rogers aims to impress scouts and general managers, excited to play under someone with NFL experience who can guide him to the next level.

Kalen Deboer keeps an eye out for QBs in Alabama 

In his first year as head coach at the University of Alabama, Kalen DeBoer faces a critical decision at quarterback for the 2024 season. While there’s time before the opening game on August 31, with winter workouts, spring ball, and fall camp ahead, the transfer portal window reopening on April 16 could bring changes across rosters. As it stands, DeBoer has three potential options at quarterback.

Jalen Milroe and five-star prospect Ty Simpson have expressed intentions to return, while Dylan Lonergan’s decision is pending. Julian Sayin, the top-ranked quarterback in the 2024 class, recently transferred to Ohio State. DeBoer could face further shifts in the quarterback landscape, with Milroe, Simpson, and Lonergan having a 30-day window post-Nick Saban’s retirement to enter the transfer portal.

The possibility of seeking additional quarterbacks or making new additions to the roster remains open, given recent misses on transfer targets from Arizona and the potential availability of players like former Mississippi State signal-caller Will Rogers and four-star recruit Dermaricus Davis.
