Home/NFL

The Ohio State turf is all set to host their arch nemesis, the Michigan Wolverines. The bad blood has taken over the OSU fandom since Jim Harbaugh brutally bruised Ryan Day and Co. with 3 consecutive wins against them. With Jim Harbaugh leaving Maize and Blue, all eyes are now set on Sherrone Moore and Justin Tress, the director of strength and conditioning at Michigan.

Ben Herbert, the former director of strength and conditioning at Michigan, followed Harbaugh to the Chargers. The only problem is Herbert was accredited with making some of the toughest boys, NFL-level tough boys, speaking in physicality terms in the whole of CFB. Also, one reason why Michigan won a National Championship and all their season games so flawlessly. Justin Tress, his successor, worked as an assistant under Herbert for about 6 years, learning all his tricks and tactics. This would not only be the first season that Moore would need to prove himself but also the season that Tress would need to prove himself.

Progressing into the early scenarios of the regular season, Tress has already started collecting compliments. Kenneth Grant, a Michigan alum, told the Wolverine that the team is looking “even more physical because of Sherrone Moore.” “We definitely just play football more, 11-on-11 situations more,” Grant added, iterating the approach that Michigan is focusing on.

The offense was heavy on the run under Harbaugh, naturally making it an aggressive formation. Since Moore is keeping that part intact, the aggressiveness seems to have dialed up a notch. If so is the case, then it would be a problem for Ryan Day. If Day loses this time, the stakes of him losing his job might go higher, especially when looking at the current roster strengths of Michigan.

While Michigan’s roster isn’t finalized yet, even their potential roster is looking scary for their opponents. Michigan has a good depth in most of its offense positions. They have Alex Orji, Jayden Denegal, and Davis Warren competing for the QB1 position. While Donovan Edwards is most likely to be a starting RB, they have several worthy options like Kalel Mullings, Benjamin Hall, and Tavierre Dunlap available.

Defensively, however, Moore and Co. might need some secondary depth to survive in cutthroat games like OSU. Moore has done the tough task of getting talents like Will Johnson, Makari Paige, and Quinten Johnson on board. Now all that’s left to do is to make sure that they stay healthy.
