Is the JJ McCarthy charm becoming too much to handle for the 2024 NFL teams? Looking at the team rankings, it seems that it is indeed making them battle it out. The teams are hot on their heels in the race to secure McCarthy. While the Giants and the Broncos convinced McCarthy for a personal workout session, the Commanders don’t need to play that game.

NFL Network’s Eric Edholm predicted the Commanders to pick JJ McCarthy since they hold the No.2. The QB has officially taken over Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels, which is also one reason for the Commanders to pivot their focus from Maye and Daniels. That was just about the Commanders, the Giants, and the Broncos. But given the inflated draft stocks of JJ McCarthy, the list of teams chasing McCarthy doesn’t end there.

Are the Vikings planning on drafting JJ McCarthy?

There is one team that has the upper hand over all the heavyweights in the McCarthy race: the Vikings. Jordan Reid from ESPN touted the Vikings to be the top landing spot for JJ McCarthy in this 2024 NFL draft. Per ESPN’s Dan Grazino’s report, the Vikings are one of the “most strongly believed” teams to opt for a trade-up, expected to make a “big jump” if the QB they want is still on the board. The franchise is most likely to strike a pact with the Patriots since Robert Kraft and Co. are rumored to be trading down to get the player they want.

With that being said, Reid highlighted why McCarthy would be a QB addition to the Vikings roster and would be possibly leaning towards after their wish to draft Daniels or Maye. “I really like the ball placement that I saw on McCarthy’s tape last season, too. He hardly ever forces his intended targets to work to haul in passes, putting throws within their body frames,” Reid believed. Given that McCarthy has some fabulous talent to boast, the Vikings might see some other teams potentially trading up as well, to create a strong pressing situation for them.

Giants to trade up?

Seems that the Giants are pretty invested in securing McCarthy. First Brian Daboll competes with Sean Payton and Co. by securing a private workout session with the QB on Sunday, backing it up with the possibility of the team possibly securing a trade-up, if it means getting McCarthy.

According to Albert Breer of SI, the Giants were “asking around” in the NFL Combine week for potential trades. Drafting McCarthy would soothe the wound of Daniel Jones’ lavish four-year, $160 million contract last offseason. It would enable the franchise to get out of the Jones contract after paying a dead cap charge of $22.1 million. Will the Giants make the move? Drop your predictions in the comments.
