Another day, another challenge for Sherrone Moore! Since undergoing a complete staff overhaul and losing the best players to the NFL, Sherrone Moore finds himself in a precarious situation. The fresh Michigan squad has failed to convince the analysts or fans that they still have it in them to make it to the National Championship. Expecting Moore to add another national championship on Michigan’s shelves in his first year as a head coach would be expecting too much.

While that stands true, Michigan is not even expected to make it to the playoffs. A big, yet seemingly doable challenge for Moore and Co. However, the host of ‘Late Kicks with Josh Pate’ does not think so. It was evident when Pate filtered 6 teams out of the ‘Top preseason wins total‘ scoreboard, as his prediction, to make it till the playoffs. In all fairness, Michigan had 9.5 as its average win score this season, the same as 8 other teams on the board. Yet, it was deliberately ditched and Alabama, LSU, Missouri, and Ole Miss were filtered out as the four teams with a 9.5 average win score this season to cut the playoffs. Along with these 4 teams, Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns also cut with their 10.5 average win score.

The most intriguing choice of Pate here is Alabama. The Crimson Tide has an identical situation with Michigan. While their staffers might not have changed as much, they still have a new head coach, a change that they’re undergoing after 17 years. Yet, Alabama cut Josh Pate and Michigan didn’t. If Sherrone Moore and Co. really want to prove themselves, they would need to beat the odds.

This time, the odds are really (and literally) stacked up against Michigan. Fox Sports did not mince their words while presenting their odds for the 2024-25 season when they reported: “Despite winning it all last season, Michigan is not the favorite.” Michigan’s odds have moved to +2500 in Fox Sports odds.

In this list too, Georgia emerges as a “lone favorite” to win the national championship, with odds of +300. Amid all this, the pressure of surpassing the expectations set as the successor of Jim Harbaugh would only rise more on Sherrone Moore. Yet, the Maize and Blue fandom is not losing its hopes so soon before carefully evaluating what Moore and Co. bring to the gridiron this season.
