Coach Prime may have benefited when star players flipped their commitment from other programs to join Colorado because of him. For those who aren’t aware, even his two-way star Travis Hunter flipped from Florida State to Jackson State in 2022. But what if the tables are turned around?

Last season may have been a success for Deion Sanders in terms of recruitment but this year is a different story with not just existing players leaving the program and spreading criticism. But Coach Prime is also losing the ones he thought he had won over. RB Rashad Amos came along only to deliver a big blow to Colorado, a move that isn’t lauded by the Buffs.

Host of Thee Pregame Show Uncle Neely joined forces with beat reporter and host of DNVR_Buffs Jake Schwanitz to discuss college football players’ commitment problems. While Schwanitz expressed his disapproval over players hopping in and out of a program at will after committing, Uncle Neely expressed that such a move will only serve as a roadblock ultimately. He said, “Sometimes you can explore other opportunities and while you’re exploring, that other door will close on you.”

The words of Uncle Neely are not false. Amos initially committed to Colorado but after his visit to Ole Miss, he has announced a commitment flip to join Lane Kiffin and is expected to join the Rebels. This isn’t the first time he has broken certain teams’ trust with his knack for flipping. After being with the RedHawks, the 6’2, 230-pounder committed to Mississippi State for two weeks before flipping to Colorado. With 1,075 yards and 13 TDs at Miami, he came to Colorado to fill in for departing players Alton McCaskill and Dylan Edwards. After taking in all the excitement of the Buffs spring weekend, his decommitment is a blow to Coach Prime who benefited two times from flips.

Two-way player Travis Hunter was a standout at Collins Hill High School who initially committed to FSU in March 2020. But when Deion Sanders arrived to become the HC of JSU later that year in September, he flipped to Jackson State and followed Coach Prime to Boulder. For Hunter, his decision seems to have been beneficial but that isn’t the case with Cormani McClain.

During the 2023 recruiting season, Coach Prime became the talk again when he flipped No. 1 5-star CB Cormani McClain from Miami to Colorado after a similar move with Hunter. But the expectation on McClain soon turned to dismay and he eventually left the program after starting six games in 2023. It’s expected that he’ll be a walk-on for Florida State. And now, with Amos’ departure, Colorado is back to 38 incoming transfers since last season.
