San Diego Aztecs are awaiting a revolution. After hiring Sean Lewis as head coach, fans can not wait to see if he will create some magic with SDSU. Lewis hoped to get an upper hand at the coaching job after a stint with Colorado, despite success at Kent State. And so, he accepted being an offensive coordinator under Deion Sanders. Seems like the plan worked out well for Lewis, as he claps back at Sanders with a shiny new role after his demotion.
When Lewis shifted to Boulder, Bill O’Boyle also made a shift with him from Kent State, securing the position of offensive line coach with the Buffs. It would not be surprising if the Buffs see more staff leaving the team, or more players joining the transfer portal. It is, however, also what the head coach Deion Sanders wanted, a huge change in the team. A win-win for both parties. But is Sean Lewis really a win for the SDSU?

As Lewis embarks on a new era at Aztecs, football gurus around the world are eager to break down the future prospects for both parties. Given the history Lewis has with Kent State, of leading the franchise to its only 51-41 Bowl win against Utah, his abilities are rarely in question. Even in Colorado, his aggressive play calls got the Buffs to a scorching 3-0 start. In the end, the conflicting views regarding the offense turned out to be the real culprit behind Lewis’s demotion.

Circling back to San Diego, the team has one of the best programs across the nation, the reputation of which rests on the shoulders of the defense. The offense, on the other hand, is crumbling due to the lack of guidance, as well as top-notch running backs. Therefore, Sean Lewis would fit in the Aztecs’ requirements as the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle. The Kent State averaged 49.8 points per game in their brief four-game 2020 season under Lewis.

As if all this was not enough to push Lewis to roll out the best strategies, SDSU’s newly constructed $300 million stadium will add the last thrust. With a stadium of such grandiose, and up to almost 35,000 seats to fill, which have been vacant since the last few games, fans can get their stakes high on expecting a worthy performance the next season.
