What if the “Miracle in Boulder” was a corporate and social media “mirage”? Former football player and sports journalist Jason Lee Whitlock, a vocal critic of Coach Prime (Deion Sanders), recently took to his YouTube channel to debunk what many hailed as the “Miracle in Boulder.” Whitlock contends that the narrative surrounding this event is a product of manipulated facts designed for ratings and clicks.
He previously drew attention to the fact that in previous seasons, barring 2022, Colorado consistently won a minimum of four games in seven of eight seasons before Deion’s tenure. With Colorado’s recent struggles, particularly after a disappointing defeat against Arizona, one question looms large: can Sanders guide his team to a playoff this season?

In his recent YouTube drop, Whitlock decoded Deion’s facade. He pointed out that it was more lucrative for the former two-sport star to build a program at Colorado as compared to Jackson state, “why build something sustainable at Jackson State, a SCH with a $57 million endowment when you can be celebrated for generating money for Colorado a school with a 2 billion dollar endowment?” It is “fun, and safer” the journalist suggests, since no one will be really bothered about real performance metrics even if Colorado finishes last.
He draws attention to the role played by the media, in painting a larger-than-life persona in Deion Sanders, and hailing him as the bringer of change since his ability to attract attention might prove profitable for them. “The television networks need his clownish persona for Ratings so ESPN and Fox Sports will avoid legitimately scrutinizing his performance,” says Whitlock. However, it is important to acknowledge how crucial Colorado’s remaining last two regular season matches are given their precarious stats this season. “Dion Dion can’t lose Friday night no matter the final score or final standings,” Whitlock correctly pointed out.

Will Colorado make it to the playoffs this season?
A lot is at stake for Deion Sanders. His promise to transform Colorado for the better might only be half fulfilled if he fails to qualify for the playoffs. Sanders significantly transformed the team by bringing in 86 new players, creating a roster distinct from the previous season. However, after a defeat against Arizona, the Buffaloes have only two games remaining in the season. With a current record of 4 wins and 6 losses, they desperately need two victories in the final stretch to fulfill the NCAA’s 6-win playoff eligibility requirement.

Regardless of how his team fairs, it is evident that Prime Time is giving Colorado all his time and effort, not only to revamp the program but to turn the Buffaloes into a powerhouse. He has even declared that both his sons, star quarterback Shedeur and Shilo, will not be declaring themselves for the NFL Draft in 2024, giving the coach ample time to strengthen the visible fumbling football program at Boulder. Despite slim playoff chances, the unpredictable nature of sports keeps hope alive for a potential turnaround.
