It looks like Deion Sanders just had the last laugh! At least that’s how things are right now between the Colorado HC and Pittsburgh HC Pat Narduzzi. The two FBS HCs didn’t connect on the friendliest level from the beginning with Narduzzi trolling Coach Prime when he first arrived in Colorado “bringing his own luggage.”
But as the tables turned, now Deion Sanders took his platform to take a jab at Narduzzi. His two new defensive transfers from Pittsburgh fueled his reason to troll the very person who questioned his recruiting tactics. And when Coach Prime trolls, he’s low-key savage.
While addressing the media on August 9, Deion Sanders offered gratitude to Narduzzi, but the compliment was tinged with sarcasm. DNVR Buffs uploaded an excerpt from his speech on X with the caption, “Coach Prime kept the receipts.” After successfully recruiting Pitt DE transfers Dayon Hayes and Samuel Okunlola to Colorado, the newly turned 57-year-old said, “First of all I want to digress a bit and thank the head coach of Pittsburgh for really preparing those young men for us. He did a great job. I love those two young men. They’re really great players and they’re gonna be pros.”

Samuel Okunlola and Dayon Hayes were two of Narduzzi’s prized players who joined Deion Sanders via the transfer portal in December and April, respectively. Okunlola started two games out of 11 games played and recorded 18 tackles, six tackles for loss, a tied team-high five sacks, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. Hayes started 11 games of 12 played, compiling 45 tackles, a team-high 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups, and one forced fumble. With them as Buffs, Colorado is confident of their defense stepping into the Big 12. With this transfer rubbing salt on Narduzzi’s wound, it will only accentuate the beef between the two HCs.

When Deion Sanders told the players to get in the transfer portal when he first came to Boulder, some people didn’t approve of the action, including Narduzzi. He brought his criticism of the Buffs HC to light in an interview with 247Sports last year saying, “That’s not the way it’s meant to be. That’s not what the rule intended to be. It was not to overhaul your roster. We’ll see how it works out but that, to me, looks bad on college football coaches across the country.”
A few months after this remark, Deion Sanders retaliated on the same platform saying, “What was his situation when he came to Pitt? He had a different situation than me. He is not mad at me, he is mad at the situation in football now that allowed his best player to leave a year ago.” Coach Prime also showed his defiance, saying, “I don’t know who he is; if he walked in here right now, I wouldn’t know him.” After all that has happened, it’s pretty likely that they do know each other now, at least on a tense level.
