Deion Sanders’ marketing this season was a masterclass for the NCAA to turn a team into a brand. Yet, per the latest reports, it seems that Sanders’ over-the-top marketing has slithered its way into his brain, taking a boastful place there. Hence, when the playoffs did not have Colorado on their list, he was crestfallen, even though he knew it was about the final score of the team, something that the Buffs utterly lacked.

“There’s no way you leave me out of the playoff. It’s a business thing. We’re box office. People want to see us in the playoff,” were the reported words of Coach Prime, per an On3 analyst. However, the analyst was not pleased with the gloating, at all and was quick to share his thoughts on the comment made by Sanders.

The YouTube channel host was shocked by Sanders’ perceived overconfidence concerning his marketing and brand scale. He addressed the same, saying, “What he’s implying here is it’s about TV ratings. He’s saying there are other things baked into that. That’s not the case. Because if that was the case if it was about TV ratings you know who would have been left out of the college football playoff? It wouldn’t have been Florida State, it would have been Washington. That’s crazy, is it? Florida State has a bigger demand for a TV audience over a school like Washington,”

Well, Washington did get a boost given the Pac-12 conference dissolving from next season. However, fans are still awaiting an answer from the CFB committee as to why the Pac-12 champions were chosen over the Mountain West champions, who have an undefeated record, just like the Huskies. However, there was a difference in other numbers between the two teams that could have provided an edge to the side.

Despite a higher margin of victory, Washington grabs the edge

FSU’s domination on the field this season was no joke. The team not only boasted a 13-0 record like the No.1 Michigan and the Washington Huskies but also maintained their winning margin at a solid 19 points, as compared to Washington’s 14 points, minus the Jordan Travis effect. FSU’s QB Jordan Travis suffered a nightmare-ish injury during the season. Yet, the selection committee affirmed that it not being a reason for FSU’s exclusion.

Hence, per the analyst, if it were about TV rankings, the controversies would be going around Washington, and Florida would be in the playoffs, preparing for the Sugar Bowl clash. However, it did not turn out that way. Now that the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl are impending, fans await the repercussions of this decision in the next season.
