5 years. 520 yards. 10 touchdowns. 24 interceptions. That was the legacy that Deion Sanders left in the Atlanta Falcons. Now that his sons are about to enter the NFL in the next season, fans are recalling the legacy that their father has left behind. Getting drafted as the fifth pick overall in the 1989 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons, after setting a record for the fastest 40-yard dash in the 1989 NFL Combine, Deion Sanders etched his legacy as a Falcon.

However, when asked for the fan poll on it, Deion Sanders got brutally snubbed by the fans when it came to the most iconic Falcons. Other Falcons swiftly overtook the legacy of Deion Sanders when they were asked to choose. The social media account of the Atlanta Falcons posted a tweet about Mount Rushmore, asking the fans: “Who is on your Falcons Mount Rushmore?”

Fans flooded the comment section, mentioning names of some of the finest Falcons, except Deion Sanders. They promptly overlooked legacy of Coach Prime at the Falcons was because of the fans picking the ones who boast an even more impressive record than him. Matt Ryan was a name that each one of them agreed on in unison. Well, it is 13 years’ worth of relentless efforts we’re talking about.

The fans have one favorite, and it’s not Deion Sanders.

Drafted as the third overall in the 2008 NFL draft, the Falcons got themselves a gem as Matt Ryan. Not only did his six-year, $72 million contract in 2008 make him the fourth highest-paid QB in the NFL, cementing himself in the league of Peyton Manning and Ben Roethlisberger, but the expectations from him were sky high as well. 62,792 yards, 381 touchdowns, and 183 interceptions later, Ryan had surely created an ever-lasting legacy for the Falcons. Fans were even ready to ditch Coach Prime for Ryan. Let’s hear it from the fans.

“Matt Ryan, Jesse Tuggle, Tommy Nobis, and Jamal Anderson. Don’t @ me if you’re not a real fan. #5 tie between Steve Bartowski and Mike Kenn,” a fan tweeted, stating their favorite. Well, during his 5 years at Falcons, Deion Sanders did not win a single Super Bowl. Whereas Ryan has won 1 Super Bowl with the Falcons, along with being named the MVP.

“Matt Ryan, William Andrews, Julio Jones, Jesse Tuggle,” another fan stated, suggesting Jesse Tuggle to be another iconic Falcons player. Tuggle’s 1987 to 2000 legacy at Falcons. Even though Tuggle played just for the Falcons in his NFL career, he made it big there. The 13 years he gave to Falcons came back to him as 5x Pro Bowls, Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor, and even the Hall of Fame in 2007.

“Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Jamal Anderson, and Matt Bryant. Say what you will, but Bryant deserves a spot….Also, Koo if you lean more toward him,” another fan commented, suggesting Julio Jones and Jamal Anderson to be other iconic players of Falcons’ history. Julio Jones, the sixth overall pick in the 2011 draft, Falcons, again, won a gem with this one. From a Super Bowl appearance to 7 Pro Bowls, Julio Jones helped Falcons gain that edge in his 9 year career with the Falcons.

Another fan suggested Mick Vick, the partner of Deion Sanders, as one of his Falcons Rushmore. “Mike Vick, Julio, Roddy, Crumpler, young Deangelo Hall, Michael turned for those 3 games. He was good, Keith brooking, John Abraham,” the fan commented. Michael Vick, has always been the name taken besides Deion Sanders.

From 2001 to 2008, Vick gave some of his best on-gridiron moments in the Falcons jersey. Awards like the NFL Comeback player of the year, and 4 time Pro-Bowl came along with his career with the Falcons. At last, another fan added, “Vick, Matty Ice, Julio and Roddy.”

Despite their close friendship and their names often being taken simultaneously, fans snubbed Deion Sanders to choose the other Falcons. The other players had some powerful legacies in the NFL, sure, but does that mean that Deion Sanders’ legacy was worthy of getting snubbed or even getting lost among the others?
