Cormani McClain leaving CU took its massive form as a pressing situation for the Buffs. Their starting QB, Shedeur Sanders would soon be leaving for the NFL after the 2025 season wraps up. Deion Sanders and Co. can hardly afford to wait for a QB to come in next season, get adjusted to the Buffs way, and then take over the QB duties, given the popularity they have garnered.
McClain’s exit might be unanticipated, but Coach Prime was prepared just in case. Since the case is, indeed, turning true, Prime’s forward planning of bringing in other QBs in the Spring portal window came to be a blessing in disguise. “We still have, I think 4-5 more young men coming in that we know are coming in, especially QB position. These guys are unbelievable. I don’t want to give away too much of this. All of those guys are versatile. They could play the side, they could play the corner, they could play whatever you desire,” Deion Sanders said in his Buffs TV press conference on 18th April.

Further in the interview, Coach Prime reported some more visits coming in this weekend at CU, bringing in more hope for the Buffs roster and potentially a replacement for Shedeur Sanders. CU has already witnessed a flow of five-star QBs visiting to be recruited in the 2025 class in the upcoming season. TJ Lateef, Bryce Underwood, and Julian Lewis are among the top discussed names.

While these stars are expected to come under the 2025 class, would the players coming through the spring transfer portal be able to leave a lasting impression on Coach Prime and Co? Only time will tell. What the fans do know, however, is that CU would need all of those players since the transfer portal that opened on Tuesday took out a good chunk of players from their roster.
Other players who entered the transfer portal
Along with McClain, safeties Jaden Milliner-Jones and Myles Slusher, offensive linemen Isaiah Jatta and Savion Washington, and defensive lineman Chazz Wallace also entered the portal on Tuesday. Since Prime and Co. are already expecting some offensive linemen and QBs to join CU, he also updated his fans about his plans for the defensive line.
Speaking about his defensive line, Prime added, “You know we got pass rushers coming we got a couple of more we signed I think there’s 4 defensive backs as well that’s coming too we have already signed, couple linebackers gonna come in.”
So with all these players rushing into Colorado, would the post-spring transfer portal practice sessions look any different at the Folsom Field? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
