There have always been some unexpected twists and turns with Coach Deion Sanders’ team in Colorado. Things got even harder when several players left the program through the transfer portal. However, one that stood out was the departure of Cormani McClain, a highly rated 5-star recruit Coach Sanders personally drafted.

McClain, who wore the prestigious No. 1 jersey, was the coveted cornerback to join Colorado in 2023. But, surprisingly, he didn’t get much playing time. This lack of playing opportunities made some fans blame Coach Sanders and his staff for McClain’s decision to leave. But now, his mother, Kaishay, has shed some light on the situation. She sent a heartfelt message to the Colorado coaching staff, which caught the eyes of Coach Prime himself.

Since Cormani McClain entered the transfer portal, there’s been a lot of buzz about where he’ll play next. His mom, Kaishay, took to social media to set the record straight. She posted, “Cormani has no one working under him or for him, he & I will be contacting the coaches directly!!!” She also added a heartfelt message of deep appreciation for Cormani’s former team: “Thankful for all opportunities And to @DeionSanders & the buff nation you guys are still appreciated no matter what! No lost love here! God bless.” This expression of gratitude from a player’s family member highlights the team’s positive impact on its players and their families.

This gratitude message caught Coach Prime’s attention, and he responded with a heartfelt note. “Much Love Mama and I pray that all things work together for the good,” Deion posted. Even though McClain made a surprising exit, with his unwavering support, Deion Sanders has always held McClain in high regard and wished him the best. It seems Deion is donning his head coach hat with more grace nowadays, showing his genuine concern for his players.

The coveted recruit Cormani McClain didn’t see as much playing time as expected under Coach Deion Sanders. In his only season at Colorado, McClain played in nine games with just four starts. He finished the 2023 season with 13 tackles, two pass breakups, and one tackle for loss. Believing he needed to be somewhere he’d get more opportunities, McClain left the CU Buffs. His mother also confirmed this, saying the cornerback needs to be in a program where he feels “appreciated.”

Surprisingly, Coach Prime seems to share these sentiments, too. He recently said, “I pray to God that he goes to a program that challenges him.” Deion also wished McClain would find a team that “holds him accountable” and helps him grow as a player. “Unfortunately, we weren’t the program that could accomplish that,” he said. Despite rumors of hostility after McClain’s departure, their social media interactions tell a different story. It looks like Deion still supports his former player, no matter where his path in football leads. Despite the circumstances, this mutual respect between McClain and Coach Sanders underscores the strong bond between the coach and his players.
