The Colorado prodigy tastes the bitter grapes of the bunch yet again! With so many from the college football community predicting a grand future for him this season as well as the 2025 NFL Draft, the pendulum of opinions keeps moving from left to right for Shedeur Sanders, and according to a renowned NFL analyst, he’s not the most elite QB in the 2024 class.

Sheduer Sanders, the QB for the Colorado Buffaloes, was the backbone behind the team’s minuscule success last season despite finishing last in the league. The son of Coach Prime showed signs of extreme resilience and determination when he was sacked 50 times in 2023, making it a national record, and still chose to show up and perform for the team. After QBs like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and JJ McCarthy have all left for the NFL, it seems like a cakewalk for Shedeur to come out on top this year with not a lot of threats to his talents. But that might not be the case since apparently, he’s not too good of a “playmaker” as per the words of Greg Cosell.

Shedeur Sanders’ credibility gets undermined by Greg Cosell

There are many reports that suggest that Shedeur Sanders only has one strong quarterback that could rival him if not be the better player, and that is Carson Beck of the Georgia Bulldogs. Even the newly launched EA Sports’ College Football ’25 suggested a tie between their abilities when they were ranked with the same ratings overall. In addition to this, Greg Cosell, NFL analyst and a senior producer at NFL Films, who is widely renowned for his knowledge of football, doesn’t seem to think that Shedeur is supremely talented.

According to the analyst, Shedeur is a good “pocket quarterback” but has failed to establish himself as a quality playmaker. Furthermore, he went on to praise his “arm talent” and his skills to drive the football along with making the “tight window throws” and yet, doesn’t stand out as an exceptional player. Since the Buffaloes weren’t able to show great offensive maneuvers last season, Cosell also said that he didn’t “get to see him as a lot of throws between the numbers.”

Cosell went on to give a conclusion to his assessment of Sheduer’s Draft prospects and said, “But I think he’s a good prospect. I don’t think he’s a high-level like number one or number two, prospect, but I think he’s a good prospect.” These words of Cosell won’t sit right with Deion, who’s already predicted his son to be a top-3 pick in the Draft next year along with Travis Hunter. But again, these opinions keep shifting from analyst to analyst in the media side of college football. While Cosell doesn’t think Shedeur is all that, Skip Bayless had the exact opposite remarks to make about the number 2 Colorado quarterback.

Skip Bayless and his high praise for Shedeur Sanders’ abilities

The Colorado Buffaloes were highly flawed last season with quite a poor offensive line. The defenders failed to protect their star QB, which in turn led to Shedeur not being able to perform up to his true talents. Yet somehow, the Colorado QB went on to end his season at the 10th position for the Heisman Trophy and still gained critical acclaim from all over the nation. Ironically, one of the staunch critics of Deion Sanders, Skip Bayless, had great things to say about Shedeur that usually analysts don’t tend to confess on national television.

Skip was one of the very few football analysts who agreed with Deion’s predictions about Shedeur’ Draft prospects and said, “Shedeur is not just the best quarterback in that conference, he’s the best quarterback in this country. And he is going to be the first pick in the draft and I think he’s going to be really, really good in pro football.” Shedeur Sanders and his chances in the 2025 NFL Draft continue to be a touchy topic in the current news headlines but if he ends up standing on everyone’s expectations of his performance this season, then nobody’s harsh opinions would stand in his way to becoming a generational NFL QB, including the renowned Greg Cosell.
