Is Deion Sanders being too protective of Travis Hunter, or is this smart coaching?

Travis Hunter is getting prepped for a big season with the Colorado Buffaloes. Last year, despite missing 3 games due to a liver laceration, he still managed an impressive stat line: 30 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 57 catches for a whopping 721 yards. Unfortunately, Hunter’s injury coincided with a downturn in the Buffs’ performance, leading to a disappointing 4-8 record.

Now the Buffaloes head coach sure doesn’t want to repeat this horrible history. Thus, Deion already has everything planned.

When asked about what to expect from Hunter this year, Deion Sanders confidently stated, “The same, maybe more.” He chuckled, adding, “It’s funny that everyone has an opinion on what he should do, and they’ve never done it.” Deion then emphasized a planned approach to managing Hunter’s workload. While Hunter’s performance last year was impressive, missing games due to injury highlighted the need for strategic rest.

“I know when to give him rest,” Deion explained. “I know how many days a week he needs off. I also know when he’s getting on my last nerve on the bench. So I need to put him out there so he can leave me alone by getting in the game.” It seems Coach Prime is determined to avoid a repeat of last season’s injury woes.

While Deion oozed confidence about Hunter at the media day, the star player himself was noticeably absent. Hunter took to social media, posting pictures of himself playing an EA Sports video game, seemingly unfazed by the media frenzy surrounding the Buffs’ upcoming season.

Despite his absence, there’s no denying Hunter’s talent and importance to the team. Well, accolades speak louder than words, right?

Have an interesting take?

Just ahead of the Big 12 media day, EA Sports College Football 25 unveiled its top 100 players, and guess who snagged a coveted spot? Yep, none other than Travis Hunter. He didn’t just make the list; he landed in the Top 10, ranking #6 overall and the #1 wide receiver! No wonder Deion Sanders has the best planned for him. With an overall rating of 95, he stands slightly higher than his quarterback Shedeur, who has 93.

Earlier, Deion even boldly declared that both Hunter and Shedeur would be top 5 picks in next year’s NFL draft! At the Big 12 media day, he showered Hunter with more praise: “This kid is a flat-out playmaker, man.” Deion went a step further, comparing Hunter to the legendary players. “Charles Woodson was him. Champ Bailey was him… He’s [Travis] the best receiver in college football and he’s the best cornerback in college football.”
