Travis Hunter playing both ways—Genius move by Coach Prime or a recipe for disaster?

Travis Hunter is quickly becoming the new Deion in town — well, the new motivator for the Buffaloes in Boulder!

Usually, Coach Prime rallies the players, giving them tough love or friendly advice, whether in the locker room or on the practice field. But it looks like the head coach is ready to pass the torch, or maybe his “motivator mic,” to his star players.

Earlier this month, the two-way phenom, Hunter, took the lead and gathered his fellow Buffs to boost their spirits. Following Coach Prime’s motivational tradition, this move earned praise from former Buffs player Matt McChesney. “It’s good to see that the leaders are standing up and saying something about it,” McChesney said.

Hunter definitely made his presence known as a leader. “We got 21 more days. Everybody doubting us,” Hunter told his teammates. He pointed out how many people write them off as a “trash team.” Even the Big 12 media polls ranked them poorly, placing the Colorado Buffaloes 11 out of 16 teams. Despite the negativity, Hunter urged his teammates, “Whatever they got to rank, we have to show them better. We got to be the No. 1 team. We got to go at this and just keep working.”

Now, McChesney praises this effort, saying, “I like to see things like that. I want to see the players stand up. All you usually see is Coach Prime talking before practice. So it’s good to see the players step up and have something to say meaningfully.”

And it’s not just Hunter—another Buffs star has also stepped up, catching Deion Sanders’ attention. Looks like the Buffs are ready for a fresh wave of leadership!

It’s not just Travis Hunter stepping up to the mic—Buffaloes‘ safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig also took a turn. Earlier this week, Deion Sanders called on his “dawg” Silmon-Craig to address the team, and what followed was an electrifying moment filled with Silmon-Craig’s high-energy words.

He started by reminding everyone, “The best opportunity of our life, dog. We don’t realize that, but we sit out here and cry about stuff that we’re not supposed to be crying about.” He then went on to express his deep love for football but didn’t stop there. Silmon-Craig also urged his teammates, “You gotta love football first.” It was quite a powerful “passion show,” and it moved Deion Sanders. The HC posted Silmon-Craig’s fired-up speech on his Instagram with the caption, “This is what REAL PASSION & GRATITUDE sounds like @camronsilmon7.” Coach Prime didn’t stop there, adding a big thumbs up for Silmon-Craig by saying, “I love him 2 Life, and he’s a PRO on and off the field.”

A strong culture is taking root in the Buffs facility, with more players stepping up to motivate and inspire their teammates.
