Earlier this week on the NFL+ show ‘The Insiders’, Mike Zimmer, former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings, made his intentions clear – he’s eager to return to coaching as soon as possible. This announcement has sparked rumors of his potential role with the Colorado Buffaloes, especially considering Zimmer’s longstanding relationship with Deion Sanders dating back to their days with the Dallas Cowboys in the mid-90s.

“Deion and I have a very interesting and unique but great relationship,” Zimmer revealed. “He’s gonna get the guys in there he wants; he’s an outstanding recruiter. He’s a terrific man who treats his players with the utmost respect. He can discipline them and wants them to be better people than just football players as they move forward.” Numerous outlets reported last January that Zimmer was hired by Colorado in an unknown capacity, and Coach Prime also confirmed the same.

During an interview on The Pregame Show, Coach Prime said, “Coach Zimmer’s coming. Forget the title, they (referring to the new coach) know kids and they’ve been capable of making tremendous decisions with the kids and the young men in mind.” After the departure of Weaver, Coach Prime, on Undisputed, it was hinted that the Buffaloes could announce their new defensive coordinator within the next few days, stating, “Wе’rе probably gonna hirе a dеfеnsivе coordinator within thе nеxt two days, maybе еvеn today.”

There has been speculation about potential candidates for the role, with names like Ed Reed and Mike Zimmer circulating in football circles. Both bring invaluable NFL experience and a track record of success, making them attractive options for Sanders and CU.

While Zimmer’s return to coaching depends on his commitment to full-time recruiting, Reed presents an equally enticing prospect with his Hall of Fame credentials and rapport with players. Sanders has made it clear that he values “pro guys” with NFL experience and underscores his commitment to preparing his players for the next level.
