Bible references, new faces during the media session, and Coach Prime giving one of his players an earful were just some of the highlights from the Colorado Buffaloes’ first day of spring training. Deion Sanders’ second season in Colorado promised a fresh start; true to that, the spring practice kicked off with a motivational bang. But Sanders soon showed that he means business as the Buffs gear up for the new season.

Last season The Buffs finished with a 4-8 record, an improvement over the 2022 season, but Sanders is looking to set high standards as he hopes to stamp his authority over the team.

A video from the first day of spring football training captured Coach Prime losing his cool during the practice session. Sanders was spotted yelling at a player whose identity remains unknown. Deion Sanders, known for his motivational speeches, seemingly shed his calm demeanor during the practice session.

The recent Well Off Media video captured Coach Prime’s fiery persona taking center stage. He pointed at a specific player and yelled, “You don’t know what to do. Yes, you!” The coach’s frustration was evident as he continued, “Do you know what to do or what? You’re the only one everybody else signed up. Do you know your responsibility? What I got to tell you?”

It is clear that Sanders wants improvements from the Buffs this season after back-to-back bottom-place finishes in Pac-12. With an eye on ending the dismal run, this season, the Buffs spring roster will feature 28 newcomers signed by the team in the early signing period. Six players are coming out of high school and 22 from the transfer portal.

Sanders’s outburst at the player was in stark contrast to his initial address to the players when he quoted the first verse from Genesis “In the Beginning.” Coach Prime asked his players, “In your beginning which is today who you bringing with you? In the beginning hustle, in the beginning hard work, in the beginning dedication, in the beginning commitment, in the beginning team, in the beginning unity, in the beginning what? What you coming with?”

During the first day of training, new transfers, former Liberty defensive back Preston Hodge and former FAU wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, spoke to the media for the first time as Buffs. New offensive line coach, Phil Loadholt, and new wide receivers coach, Jason Phillips, also appeared at the podium.

Coach Prime rebuilds the roster and ignites the Buffs

Deion Sanders isn’t here for moral victories. After two brutal seasons in 2022 and 2023, his focus is now on rebuilding. Thus, Coach Prime is injecting a fiery intensity into the Colorado program. His track record speaks volumes. Sanders transformed Jackson State within a single season, and his recruiting skills are undeniable.

At Colorado, he has assembled a seasoned coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and defensive coordinator Robert Livingston. The roster is getting a serious makeover, too, with six high school commits and a whopping 22 transfers joining the fray. This haul includes a coveted 5-star recruit, 13 solid 3-star players, and 10 highly rated 4-star ones.
