Is Deion Sanders' tough love the secret sauce for turning CU into a powerhouse?

To add to the already building-up excitement of the 2024 season at Colorado came the latest transfer Colton Hood’s inside update. Fresh from the Folsom Fields training grounds, Hood gave his honest opinion on the few months that he has spent training with Coach Prime. In April, Hood transferred to Colorado after a short one-year stint at Auburn. Ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 373 player in the Class of 2023, Hood was a precious transfer portal win that Deion Sanders scored. Now, Coach Prime is all about making the win count in the 2024 season by pushing Hood to his extremes.

“It’s really a blessing. Not many people get that. Everywhere it is, not too many Hall of Fame corners and not too many coaches. So, it’s really a blessing to be coached by the greatest to ever do it,” CU’s jersey No. 15 Hood said, expressing how lucky he feels to be trained by one of the best to grace the football field. However, that comes with its own challenges, something that Hood is a big fan of.

“Every day, he’s hard on me but I like it like that coz that’s gonna make me better. I’m feeling good. I’m just ready to get out and get better,” Hood confessed, speaking highly of the tough training regime Coach Prime is putting him under. Since Hood only appeared in 4 games during his true freshman 2023 season, plus the pressure he will have to deal with on-field in the regular season, tough training is necessary. Despite this, the Auburn transfer has not disappointed Coach Prime and Co. Here’s how.

Colton Hood plays his way up the depth chart.

The former four-star recruit has impressed the coaching staff at Colorado, to put it simply. Throughout the summer practice camps, Hood has been putting in the hard work every single day, proving his worth to the officials in the depth chart. All these efforts have earned him some sweet results, getting him the spot right behind the starting QBs Kayin Lee and Keionte Scott on the outside.

“He just finds the ball very well,” a CU coaching staffer said when asked about Hood’s performance. “Being able to find the ball is something he excels in, so if that ball’s in the air, everybody knows Colton Hood has a shot at taking it away.” Well, who’s to blame? Training under a Hall of Famer CB as his head coach has its benefits for Colton Hood. Fans can surely expect some magic to unfold at the CB position this season.
